ERVING — Erving Elementary School Principal Lisa Candito has resigned following an administrative leave that lasted more than a month, Erving School Union 28’s acting Superintendent Corrina Wcislo announced in a letter to the school community.

“Lisa Candito informed the School Committee that she has decided to step down as principal of Erving Elementary School, effective immediately,” Wcislo wrote in the letter, dated Friday, June 16. “Mrs. Candito has appreciated her time spent at EES.”

She noted that the School Committee is making progress and plans to fill the principal position “as soon as possible.” Multiple attempts to reach Wcislo and School Committee Chair Mackensey Bailey for comment this week following Candito’s resignation have been unsuccessful.

Candito, who has worked in education for more than two decades, served as principal of Ware Middle School before coming to Erving Elementary in 2019. She also worked at Amherst-Pelham Regional High School and the Northampton Collaborative for Educational Services.

School officials confirmed earlier this month that both Candito and Erving School Union 28 Superintendent Jennifer Culkeen have been on what they described as “approved leave.” Wcislo, who shared the announcements in a series of messages to the Erving Elementary community, officially announced Culkeen’s leave on June 8 and Candito’s on June 9. According to Bailey, Culkeen’s leave began on June 2, while Candito’s began in mid-May.

Bailey previously declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding either situation, explaining that such personnel matters cannot be made public.

A School Committee meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday at Erving Elementary School.
