ORANGE — The driver of a dump truck was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries following a crash that left the vehicle partially submerged in Tully Pond on Friday.

According to the Orange Fire Department, the crash occurred on Tully Road near Boiler Bar & Grille at around 10:46 a.m. Fire Chief James Young said the cause is still under investigation, but he noted the crash took place near a turn on Tully Road. The dump truck, out of Don Matthews Excavating of Warwick, rolled over and became partially submerged in Tully Pond.

“We’ve seen crashes there before, but it’s not a common occurrence,” the chief said.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, according to Young.

The truck was transporting gravel, which did spill into the pond. The Massachusetts State Police truck team, along with the Orange Police and Fire departments, and Ricky’s Towing and Recovery of Leominster, worked to remove diesel fuel prior to moving the truck from the pond. According to Young, it does not appear that any fuel leaked from the truck.
