COLRAIN — A head-on collision on Greenfield Road Wednesday morning injured two people as well as a dog.

A pickup truck coming down the slope toward the center of Colrain at around 9 a.m. slid across the center line and struck a small hybrid vehicle head-on, according to Fire Chief Nicholas Anzuoni. Both vehicles were registered in Vermont.

First responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the hybrid vehicle. Both drivers were transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, according to Anzuoni. A dog that was riding in one of the vehicles also sustained minor injuries.

“Conditions were slick — not too bad, but just slick enough,” Anzuoni said, noting he believes speed may have been a factor in the crash.

The Colrain Fire Department, Shelburne Fire Department, Colrain Ambulance, Colrain Police Department, Greenfield Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police responded to the crash.
