DEERFIELD — Police arrested two people this weekend following separate incidents of driving while intoxicated.

The first incident happened Friday just after 11:30 p.m. when a 28 year-old Greenfield man swerved off Old Main Street, crashing into a ditch. A statement released by police on Facebook says, “the operator admitted to drinking prior to the crash and showed signs of intoxication.”

The driver, booked at the Deerfield Police Station, was taken by South County EMS to Baystate Franklin Medical Center with minor injuries. He was arraigned Monday in Greenfield District Court.

5 & 10 incident

On Saturday, police arrested a second driver after several 911 calls about a car driving all over Routes 5 and 10.

Officers later found “a vehicle off the road up on the grass in the area of 505 Greenfield Road,” with the driver “passed out behind the wheel. The passenger of the vehicle said he was scared for his life before demanding the operator to pull off the road,” a statement says.

The driver was arrested. It was later discovered “the operator and passenger were drinking whiskey prior to the vehicle going off onto the grass.”
