GILL — The Highway Department has received approval from voters to buy a new single-axle dump truck at an estimated cost of $205,000.

Monday’s special debt exclusion election yielded a total of 91 ballots, with 68 residents voting in favor of the purchase and debt exclusion, and 23 voting against it, according to Town Clerk Doreen Stevens.

Following these results, Highway Superintendent John Miner said his department plans to replace its existing 2009 Sterling dump truck with a 2022 International single-axle dump truck. The ballot states this newer model will come equipped with a “plow, wing plow, all-season body and related accessories.”

Currently, delivery of the new dump truck is expected to be around January 2022, according to Town Administrator Ray Purington. The cost of the new truck and incidentals is expected to come to around $205,000, an estimate that was approved on June 26 at Gill’s Annual Town Meeting. Purington said the current plan outlines that $53,700 will come from available funds and $151,300 will come from a three- or five-year loan.

Purington said that he and Miner are currently preparing purchase documents. He said the sale will be “made using a cooperative purchasing program (or ‘group bid’) offered by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and the Greater Boston Police Council.” They plan to present this purchase information for the Selectboard to authorize during its meeting on July 19.
