GREENFIELD — The Franklin County Interfaith Council will host a Death Café on Monday, June 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church, located at 16 Court Square.

Greenfield resident Becca King, an organizer of the Death Café, said in a statement that the discussion group will explore questions such as “What is old?” and “What is too old?”

“I hear many of my peers talking about when one begins the aging process, how do we transition from the independent ability to work, to function with a healthy body and mind, to becoming dependent on others, needing help in certain ways, and becoming aware of our ultimate mortality and the time left to live a meaningful life,” King said.

Death Café attendees can openly discuss how they’d like to prepare for death and how they hope others will be present for them.

“Do we want music? Poetry read to us? Massage? Will our affairs be handled efficiently? Are there any things we would like to say before leaving?” King asks. “How do we want to be remembered and what are the things we’ve done that may be considered our legacy? And above all, how do we retain self-respect in light of our diminishment?

Refreshments will be served. Another Death Café will be held on July 10.
