DA’s office IDs Sunderland man struck and killed in Hadley

HADLEY — The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has identified the 33-year-old Sunderland man who was killed after being struck by a car early Saturday morning as Melvin L. Wilson.

Wilson was struck by a car along the edge of the Route 116 in Hadley when he was walking south at around 5:30 a.m. Hadley Police, State Police assigned to the DA’s office and emergency personnel responded when the driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old Deerfield woman, called 911 after the collision occurred.

Upon arrival, first responders found Wilson was unresponsive and medical care was immediately started. According to the DA’s office, he was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton where he later died.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hadley Police Department, State Police assigned to the DA’s office, state troopers assigned to the Crime Scene Services and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction sections, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
