BERNARDSTON – It’s official. Bernardston’s Crumpin-Fox Club has been designated as “Official Golf Partner of UMass Athletics” for the 2017-2018 collegiate athletic season.

According to a University of Massachusetts Athletics’ press release, the partnership marks a first between UMass Athletics, in conjunction with its multimedia rights holder Learfield’s UMass Sports Properties, and Crumpin-Fox, which was recently ranked as the best public golf course in Massachusetts by New England Golf Monthly.

Through the partnership, the course, which is owned by The Sandri Companies, will sponsor several in-game promotions for football and men’s basketball home games, the release states. Crumpin-Fox’s director of golf, John Jackson, thinks those promotions will reach not only local residents but travelers, benefiting Bernardston as a whole.

“Anytime businesses do well in an area it’s beneficial to the immediate surrounding town,” Jackson said in a phone interview. “So having a network like UMass aligning themselves with Crumpin-Fox is ultimately going to gain Crumpin-Fox much more exposure, and in turn I think that gains exposure to all the surrounding businesses.”

According to the release, Crumpin-Fox will receive numerous benefits as a corporate partner. In addition to use of UMass marks and logos, Crumpin-Fox earns exposure on the UMass Sports Network during football, hockey and men’s basketball seasons, and digital visibility all year via the official athletics website, UMassAthletics.com.

Jackson said that though UMass has had golf outings at Crumpin-Fox before, this is the first time the two entities have reached a formal partnership. Being named the best public golf course in the state this August certainly helped foster the relationship, he continued.

“We’re just incredibly excited about the opportunities it can create for (UMass) and ourselves,” Jackson said. “It’s a great business-to-business relationship.”

“We’re pleased to welcome Crumpin-Fox Club to our corporate partner family and know there are now some great opportunities for our fans and campus community as a result of us coming together,” UMass Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford is quoted as saying in the release. “We look forward to working with (John Jackson) and his team at Crumpin-Fox to develop a long-standing, mutually beneficial partnership.”

To kick off the new partnership, Crumpin-Fox is offering “Play it Forward for UMass” during Homecoming week, the release states. On Oct. 20 through Oct. 22, guests can play 18 holes with a cart for $65 before noon, and for $45 after noon, as compared to the usual $99 before noon and $79 after noon. Ten percent of all golf sales on those days will benefit the Minutemen Club.

However, the discounts only start there. Jackson said Crumpin-Fox will offer exclusive pricing on memberships and rates for UMass students, alumni and staff.

“We’re looking forward to having the opportunity to do our part in ‘Uniting the Masses’ and be involved in the energy and excitement coming from Amherst,” Jackson is quoted as saying in the release. “It’s a privilege that doesn’t come along too often and we are going to make the best of it.”
