Skilled craftspeople will open their home studios to the public once again for visitors to see their work and buy art straight from the artists.

Crafts of Colrain will celebrate its 20th anniversary with an open studio tour on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The tour includes 16 studios where 21 artists will show off their many different crafts to visitors.

Weaving, basketry, textile arts, pottery, jewelry, woodcrafts, painting, calligraphy, photography and mixed media are some of the many types of works available.

“Explore the process of yarn-making, as well as visit with the animals, at Winterberry and Keldaby Farms. Stop for a local brew at Stoneman Brewery or enjoy a freshly-made treat at Pine Hill Orchards or at the Catamount Country Store. This is truly a weekend of artistic and social delights,” reads the press release.

Cynthia Herbert, one of the organizers of the tour, described its great success to the wide variety of crafts available. “There are no repeats; everything is pretty much different from everything else,” she said.

There are several other craft tours in the area that focus on a specific craft including pottery or weaving. The Crafts of Colrain tour, instead, focuses on the many different types of work people are doing in Colrain to show off the wide variety of skills in one small geographic area.

Joining the ranks of many returning artists is Leslie Brooks, who will be showing sculptural mixed media and encaustic wax paintings.

Many of the open studios will include demonstrations of how the crafts are made, along with finished products for sale.

Around 700 visitors are expected, all spending their weekend driving through the hilltown of Colrain, appreciating the landscape and charm.
