Connecticut men arrested following vehicle, foot pursuit in Whately

WHATELY — Two men from Connecticut were arrested on several charges following a vehicle and foot pursuit near Interstate 91’s Exit 35 off-ramp Sunday evening.

According to a report from Massachusetts State Police, troopers pursued a driver that fled a traffic stop along Interstate 91 in Hatfield at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. Police attempted to deploy a tire deflation device, or “spike strip,” to stop the vehicle, but the driver evaded it by driving into the breakdown lane. Police terminated pursuit at this time.

Shortly after, the vehicle, a silver Honda, was reported to be involved in a crash by the Exit 35 off-ramp in Whately, the police report continues. Two occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot, only to be located by police a short time later and taken into custody.

Following an investigation by State Police, Ernesto Sanchez, 24, from New Britain, Connecticut was charged with a license plate violation, failure to stop for police, a marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a Class B substance, trafficking in cocaine, breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony and kidnapping. Additionally, Tommy Colon, 18, from Hartford, Connecticut, was charged with possession of a Class B substance, trafficking in cocaine, breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony and kidnapping. Both parties were transported to the Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction pending arraignment.
