MONTAGUE — Local social services and assistance programs will be showcased at a fair for families in the Gill-Montague Regional School District on Thursday, Dec. 5.

The fair will start at 5:30 p.m. in the Turners Falls High School cafeteria. Admission is free and dinner will be served.

About 23 service providers will attend, according to Jo-Ann Konieczny, the teacher who co-organized the fair with the district’s Family Engagement Coordinator Stacey Langknecht.

Service providers will include job-finding services, fuel and food assistance programs, health care, mental health, after-school care, and services like libraries and the YMCA. There will also be clothes available for free.

“We’re trying to hit all kinds of needs that people have,” Konieczny said. “It lets people know what options are in their community. A lot of people don’t know the resources that are available.”

“Everybody needs resources sometimes,” Langknecht said. “Certainly in our area, we know there are lots of families that could use resources. And we have wonderful resources in this area.”

While the school is able to connect families with resources, Langknecht said, many families don’t think to use the school as an avenue to find them.

This is the first time the school has held a resource fair. If it goes well, Konieczny said organizers will look into hosting more events like this.
