GREENFIELD — Comedy is returning to the Garden Cinemas as co-owners Isaac and Angela Mass welcome three comedians for a Mother’s Day weekend special.

Jody Sloane, Joni Grassey and Rafi Gonzalez will star in “Two Mothers and a Son” on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in a show Isaac Mass described as being the comedy special equivalent of an R-rated movie.

“They’re very funny,” Isaac Mass said.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance at the box office or at gardencinemas.net.

Isaac Mass said he and his wife figured the comedy show would be a creative way for adult children to get their moms a Mother’s Day gift that doesn’t consist of the typical flowers or candy.

“We know that moms like experiences,” he said. “They want to spend time with their kids.”

Sloane has headlined comedy clubs throughout New England, working Giggles Comedy Club in Saugus, Comix At Foxwoods and the Boston Comedy Festival in addition to the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. She honed her skills as a “sit-down” comic working as a “ConDUCKtor” for Boston Duck Tours and has performed in front of an audience at least 4,000 times.

Grassey, on the other hand, was a comedian in Las Vegas for more than 20 years before moving to the Northeast. She has worked at the Catch a Rising Star comedy club chain as well as The Improv and The Comedy Stop.

Gonzalez is a stand-up comedian from Puerto Rico who is known for his conversational style and material centering around his experiences with American culture. In 2021, he was filmed in San Antonio for HBO Max as part of the HA Comedy Festival. He opens regularly around the country for actor/comedian Michael Rapaport, as well as comedian/author Phoebe Robinson. In 2020, he appeared on the popular podcast History Hyenas, hosted by comedians Chris Distefano and Yannis Pappas.

“We think moms deserve a laugh and hope this is a great way for adult children to give their moms what they really want — time together and a glass of wine from the concession stand,” Angela Mass said in a statement.

The show is organized by Laugh Riot Productions, as was the March show starring Steve Sweeney and Kenny Rogerson.

“We had pretty good turnout, but it was in the middle of a snowstorm, there was a blizzard, so only about half the house was filled,” Isaac Mass recalled. “We’re looking to see if there’s an audience for [comedy shows].”
