GREENFIELD — After a representative from the Young Entrepreneurs Across America organization came to speak to Josiah Crosier’s college class, the Greenfield High School graduate was inspired to get involved with Student Painters and has since dedicated his summer to sprucing up local house exteriors.

According to its website, Student Painters originated in Ontario, Canada, and made its way to the United State in 1987 “to give a new and unique professional experience for college students.”

“Our focus lies with ensuring high-quality painting services to customers through the means of training and developing college students into young entrepreneurs,” the website states. “Our company is uniquely set up to train students to make decisions, handle change and deal with pressing issues in a real-world business environment in order to be successful.”

Student Painters is an organization that gives college students the opportunity to run their own business during the summer, and Crosier has been hired as a branch manager in the Greenfield area. During the off season, Crosier focuses on sales and booking clients. Now, Crosier expects to have painted 22 clients’ homes by Labor Day.

Crosier, a rising junior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst studying managerial economics, is originally from Nashua, New Hampshire, but moved down to Colrain about four years ago. He lives there with his grandfather.

“I’ve been managing a team of marketers and we’ll be managing a team of painters. ... That’s why I’ve learned how to be a proper boss,” Crosier said. “It’s been a learning curve for sure.

“We’re always looking to hire the best people possible [and] we’re always looking to grow the team,” he added. Both student marketers and painters are hired at $17 an hour with options for bonuses.

Student painters only paint exterior walls of homes. To book his team for a summer paint project or to inquire about a job, call 413-824-5780.
