COLRAIN — Two transfers from free cash will come before voters at a Special Town Meeting next week.

The meeting to discuss two warrant articles will be held on Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at Colrain Central School.

The first article, and the reason the meeting was called, will ask the town to use $2,500 of free cash to pay for the cost of licensing and installation fees related to new tax collection software.

“This is a time-sensitive issue,” Selectboard Chair Mike Slowinski said.

The tax collection software the town uses has merged with two other companies. The town was given the new merged system for free but was asked to pay licensing fees. The $2,500 will pay for the licensing fees as well as unexpected information technology support needed for the installation, according to Treasurer Paula Harrison.

The other article up for discussion proposes transferring $57,650 from free cash to pay for demolition costs of one structure at 102 Main Road. The demolition was completed in early January, and a lien in the same amount was placed on the land that must be paid if the property changes hands.
