COLRAIN — A Charlemont woman escaped injury after her vehicle struck a utility pole and rolled over on Route 112 in front of Barnhardt Manufacturing Co. on Thursday afternoon, closing the road to traffic.

Annie Hazlett of Charlemont said she had just finished work and was traveling alone southbound on Route 112 on her way to pick up her daughter. Hazlett said she glanced down for a second toward her coffee or at the radio, and struck the utility pole with the front passenger side of her vehicle. The impact flipped the black Subaru Forester onto its roof.

The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m.

Colrain Ambulance responded and evaluated Hazlett. She credits her seat belt for saving her from injury. The airbags also deployed.

The Colrain Fire Department secured the scene, blocking the road from both directions with engines while State Police investigated.

The utility pole, which was owned by Verizon, was cracked and leaning. Eversource employees on scene said it would have to be replaced. One lane of traffic was to be opened while the pole was being replaced.
