MONTAGUE — Due to the declining structure of the Center Street Bridge, Montague has decided to make it a one-lane road.

Mass DOT recently inspected the bridge over the Sawmill River in Montague Center and informed the town that they could either close the bridge entirely, or limit it to three tons and make it a one-lane road, according to Montague DPW Superintendent Tom Bergeron. The bridge will no longer be able to bear a load of vehicles over 6,000 pounds.

After talks with the Selectmen and Town Administrator Steve Ellis, it was decided that the bridge will be made one-lane beginning the week of March 12. Stop signs and posting will be put in place along with barriers on the bridge.
