COVID-19 Response Fund awards $725K, with 7 Franklin County nonprofits benefiting

SPRINGFIELD — The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts has announced new grants totaling $725,000 to 26 nonprofits through the COVID-19 Response Fund for the Pioneer Valley, addressing immediate financial needs during the pandemic.

Including this latest round, the COVID-19 Response Fund for the Pioneer Valley has awarded more than $5.5 million in grants to nonprofits that are serving vulnerable populations affected by the crisis, according to a Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts press release.

“The pandemic is adversely impacting individuals, families and communities in the region,” said Katie Allan Zobel, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. “This round of grants includes funds to address the economic instability that many are facing.”

The Franklin County organizations that were awarded grants include: The Brick House Community Resource Center in Turners Falls; the Center for New Americans, which has a Greenfield office as well as locations in Northampton and Amherst; the Greenfield-based Children’s Advocacy Center of Franklin County and North Quabbin Inc.; the Franklin County Community Meals Program, which operates at sites in Greenfield, Turners Falls and Orange; LifePath, based in Greenfield; the Mary Lyon Foundation of Shelburne Falls; and Montague Catholic Social Ministries.

The COVID-19 Response Fund for the Pioneer Valley has raised $7.6 million from 650 donors, including foundations, businesses and individuals, and resources from the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund, the release states.
