Bulletin board: Montague Elks soccer shoot set for Aug. 24

The Montague Elks Lodge 2521 will host a youth soccer shoot on Aug. 24 at Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls (82 Industrial Blvd.).

The event is open to boys and girls in two separate categories: ages 7 and under, and ages 8-15. Winners of each contest are eligible to advance to the next level of competition.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the event starts at 10. Age is determined as of Jan. 1, 2024. Proof of age is required, such as a birth certificate, baptismal record or passport. Any questions can be directed to Linda Morey (call or text) at 413-522-3145.

Golf

Blomstedt sinks ace

Playing in a hickory golf event, Jeff Blomstedt sank a hole-in-one at Brattleboro Country Club on Saturday.

Blomstedt aced the 115-yard 8th hole at BCC, using a Niblick club (a 19th century iron). The feat was witnessed by Rich Clark and Jack Crosby.

Northfield Two-Ball

A four-way tie for low gross highlighted the annual Northfield Golf Club Two-Ball on Saturday.

The teams of Jesse Morgan IV/Kevin Harrington, Garrett Hasanbasic/Garrett Plifka, Tim Yarosevich/Nick Sarsfield and Chris Ferriter/Ed Garbacik all shot rounds of 67 to tie for first place.

Jon Snow and Fred Llewelyn tied for low net with the teams of Gene LaCoy/Bob LaCoy and Doug Field/Andy Chartier (59). Scott Colby and Frank Rice were fourth with a 60.

Closest to the pin winners were Cam Merrigan (No. 6, 1 foot, 7 inches), Andy Sena (No. 7, 5 inches), Carter Fasick (No. 15, 6-6) and Dave Champigny (No. 6, 3-2). Longest drive winners were Jeff Jackman (No. 9, 286 yards) and Jake Napolitan (No. 18, 283).

Running

Don Maynard Memorial Race

The 30th annual Don Maynard Memorial Race is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m at the Greenfield Municipal Swimming Area. 

The options are to run the 5 mile road race or the 3 mile walk. T-shirts will be given to the first 50 people who register. Online registration is available at RuSignup.com. The race is looking for volunteers. Questions can be directed to Chuck Adams at 413-522-6688.
