Bulletin board: Franklin County Hoop Clinic coming later this month

The Franklin County Hoop Clinic is running in two sessions this summer, the first running from July 15-19 and the second July 22-26, both at Greenfield High School. 

The clinic runs from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m. each day and is open to boys and girls ages 6-14.

DRIVE League

Jon Breor scored 18 points while Grayson Thomas and Caleb Murray each finished with 11 points, helping Greenfield pick up a 59-49 win over Orange on Friday in boys varsity action in the DRIVE League at Greenfield High School. 

Marshall Ames scored 17 points, Morgan Softic finished with 11 points while Jayden Delgado recorded 10 points for Orange. 

Up next, Frontier walked away with a 44-42 win over Athol behind 19 points from Max Millette and eight points from Alex Ellis. Ethan Bacigalupo tossed in nine points while Ben Kearney scored seven points for the Bears. 

To close things out, Jack Cady put up 24 points and Oscar Korson added 18 points in Brattleboro’s 57-38 triumph over Narragansett. Brayden Turner scored eight points in the loss.

Massachusetts Women’s Four Ball Championship

Terry Boyce and Cathy Sessions competed in the 95th Massachusetts Women’s Four Ball Championship at Marlborough Country Club on Monday, taking 13th place in a field of 52 teams. 

Boyce, representing Country Club of Greenfield, and Sessions, representing Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, shot a 7-over 79 to earn the 13th-place finish. 

Megan Buck and Shannon Johnson of Thorny Lea Golf Club captured the title with a 3-under 69.

Crumpin-Fox

Mark Waskiewicz shot the low gross of 73 to take first place in the Crumpin-Fox Club’s Open Singles tournament on Saturday in Bernardston. 

Aaron Van Epps took second (75) while Carter Fasick came in third (77). Jordan Haskell (69), John Fasick (71), Mike Maguire (73) and Steve Garrity (73) carded the low net scores. 

Lisa Sullivan won the Women’s Division with a gross score of 88, with Jill Waldron settling for second (89). Jodi Hoynoski (71) and Sharon Woodard (76) carded the low net scores. 

Maguire, Waskiewicz and Aiden Van Epps won skins. 

Northfield Golf Club

Garrett Hasanbasic and Dave Donoghue shot the low gross off 66 in a Member Guest contest at Northfield Golf Club Saturday. 

Shane Foster and Alex White took second (68). The pairings of Lloyd Grover and Denis Depault (57) and Gene LaCoy and Dan Maloy (59) shot the low net scores. 

Closest to the pin winners were Alex White on No. 6 (five feet, nine inches), Jon Snow on No. 7 (8-8), Scott Powers on No. 15 (24-11) a nd Kevan Whippie on No. 16 (10-6). Longest drive winners were Powers (280 yards) and Carole Whippie (166) on No. 9 and Hasanbasic (321) and Ann Cairl (152) on No. 18. 

Country Club of Greenfield

Keegan Downie and Casey Downie shot the low gross of 68 in the Husband Wife Championship at Country Club of Greenfield Sunday. 

Mike Archer and Elizabeth Archer tied with Rich Young and Raye Young for second (74). Michael Duclos and Karen Duclos carded the low net (58) followed by Jay Currie and Sarah Cook (59) and Roy Emerson and TC Emerson (61). In terms of total net, Matt Llewelyn and Olivia Llewelyn tied with Chris Varilly and Angie Varilly for first (69). 

During a Friday Night Mixer at CCG last week, John Varner and Teresa Varner shot the low gross (32) followed by Nancy Donoghue and David Donoghue (33). 

Jason Kelton and Karin McDonald tied with Terry Boyce and Phil Reilley for third (34). Terry Blanchard and Wendy Blanchard shot the low net (30) followed by Norman Morris and Susan O’Coinnor (31), Elizabeth Archer and Mike Archer (32) and Tom Herzig and Kathy Nicoll (32). 

Baseball

American Legion

Greenfield Post 81 10, Monson 0 (5) — Post 81 put five runs on the board in the first and didn’t look back, racing away with a victory over Monson at Vets Field on Monday. 

Michael Pierce pitched all five innings for Greenfield, allowing one hit and striking out three. At the plate, Pierce doubled. 

Hugh Cyhowski tallied three hits and two RBIs, Logan Moore recorded a pair of hits to drive in three runs, Luca Siano finsihed with two hits and two RBIs, Ben Caron had a hit that knocked in three runs while Dylen Richardson and Jackson Campbell hit safely in the win. 

PVYBL

West County Warriors 8, Pioneer 7 — Jack Phillips tallied two triples, a single and an RBI while Brady Gancarz, George Gutierrez, Brody Hicks and Hunter Donahue each had a hit and an RBI win West County’s Mantle win Saturday. 

Adult softball

Greenfield co-ed

Common Ground Fitness 16, Hot L 14 — Ed Morley III tallied four hits, one a home run, and five RBIs, Jake Perkins cracked three doubles and a single while Joe Geary had three doubles, a single and three RBIs in Common Ground’s win Monday. 

Jake Conway homered, tripled, singled and drove in seven, Brooke Hastings had two singles and two doubles while Matt Weeden singled and doubled in the loss. 

PV Women’s League

Shelburne Falls 18, Goshen 18 – Thursday’s game between the two teams was fit to be tied, as action ended even after six innings of play in Shelburne Falls.

Shelburne Falls’ Melissa Hersey smacked a home run to pace the hosts, while Lexi Farrick also went deep and added a double and two RBIs. Teagan Valeski (double) and Amanda Chapin (two doubles) were other key offensive contibutors.

Goshen’s Marjorie Rida was a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, and Fawn Mougin also hit a homer as part of a 3-for-4 night. Ashley Tompkins added three hits, including a pair of doubles, for the visitors.
