Bulletin Board: Mother’s Day Half Marathon returns Sunday

The 13th Annual Western Mass Mother’s Day Half-Marathon to benefit Cancer Connection is set for Sunday in Whately.

The race begins at 7:30 a.m. with walkers and “fun-runners,” and the half-marathon race starting at 8 a.m. on Christian Lane near the Whately Police/Fire Stations.

The course is USATF certified and covers 13.1 scenic miles. Parking will be provided by the Yankee Candle Company Manufacturing plant on Christian Lane in Whately.

Cancer Connection’s mission is to provide a haven where people with cancer and their loved ones can learn how to navigate the complicated cancer journey through one-to-one guidance, education, peer support, integrative therapies, and creative programs to strengthen body and spirit. The organizations offers services free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the individuals, corporations, and foundations that support their work.

Frontier baseball plant sale

Head down to the South Deerfield Senior Center on Saturday morning for the Frontier baseball team’s annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale. 

The plant sale begins at 9:30 a.m. Hanging baskets, patio pots, annuals and perennials from Fairview Farms will be for sale.

• Also on Friday, Malachi Bouchard struck out nine and added a home run and a triple at the plate in the Montague Elks’ 15-5 win over Greenfield Savings Bank.

Theo Schulte had two hits and struck out three, Damien McCarthy had three hits while Ben Thompson, Noah Marguet and Kyrie Petrizzi-Rio each knocked two hits in Fitzgerald Real Estate’s 11-6 win over Ginger Cat Sealcoating on Friday in a AA contest. 

Harlon Hickey knocked two hits and struck out three, Josh James singled, tripled and brought in three runs while Jacolby Dyer tallied two hits for Ginger Cat. 

• Also on Friday Quincy Audet and Jack Collins-Bradbury knocked two hits apiece to lead Liberty Tax to a 13-7 victory over Ruggeri Real Estate. 

Cody Castine had a trio of hits and RBIs and Onalaya Locke played well in the field for Ruggeri. 

• In AA action on Friday, Yusuf Bensen tallied two doubles, a single and five RBIs, EJ Morley knocked a hit that brought in a run while Sean Degen had a pair of hits and three RBIs in Gagne Wealth Management’s 19-1 victory over Baker Financial. 

Keegan Lewkowicz and Thomas Donahue each had two hits while Sam Edson hit safely for Baker. 

• In action from Thursday at Mini-Fenway, Toby Campbell struck out seven batters and had two hits, including a double, to lift Lundgren Honda past Bobby C’s DJ Service, 11-3.

Noah Knox went 3-for-3 and Quinn Gibbons added a hit for Lundgren, while Elias Tripp pitched three innings and recorded seven strikeouts to go with a hit for Bobby C’s. The club also received six punchouts from Eli Skinder (who also had a hit) and a hit from Emerson Maxam.

• Elsewhere from Thursday, Ethan Burgh tossed a four-inning gem, striking out eight to help Maniatty Real Estate to a 15-2 win over Gilmore and Farrell.

Jose Colon-Martinez and Topher Miller each scored two runs for Maniatty’s, and Conner Bergeron roped three doubles.

Bodie Burke, Carter Malouin and Joe McCarthy all had hits for Gilmore and Farrell, while McCarthy and Jakob George played well behind the plate. 

Golf

Alexander Findlay Hickory Open    

Bill Wardwell fired a round of 74, capturing the low gross title at the Alexander Findlay Hickory Open at the Country Club of Greenfield on Friday. Matt Dodds had the low net (70).

  Jeff Blomstedt took top honors in Stableford scoring (28), while Louis Falcone also amassed 28 points. Allen Johnson’s plus-five point quota bested the field, and Jim Lafleur won a match of cards to finish second at plus-two.

Elks League

 Jim Elwell and Sharon Rawson were closest to the pin winners during week 3 of the Greenfield Elks Golf League at the Country Club of Greenfield on Wednesday.

Elwell was closest at No. 2 (14 feet, 7 inches) while Rawson was closest at No. 5 (15-1).

Kyle Bergmann had five hits while Dylan Mailloux, Kenzie Bardwell, Melvin Moreno and Quinn Doyle each had three hits in the Montague Elks’ 21-3 win over the Liberty Tax Sharks on Friday. 

Matt Weeden had two hits while Whitney Roberts and Trevor Thomas each had a hit in the loss. 

• Later on Friday Brittany York tallied five hits, Devin Millerick and Brody Markol had four hits and Trevor Mankowsky knocked three hits in Thayer Street Builders’ 15-9 victory over Tavern. 

 Brian Ginnity had three hits in the loss.
