Four local high school softball teams will be involved in MIAA quarterfinal games on Friday, and fans attending those games will be required to purchase tickets online prior to entering.
The MIAA no longer accepts cash at the door for tickets at this point in the state tournaments, meaning family and other fans will need to go through the website gofan.co and search for their respective schools.
Franklin Tech hosts Frontier at 4 p.m. on Friday in a Div. 5 quarterfinal, while Turners Falls welcomes Millis and Greenfield hosts Hopedale (both at 6 p.m.).
Running41st Montague Mug Race
The 41st Montague Mug Race and Mini Mug Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20.
The Mug Race will start at 8:30 a.m. from the Montague Center Common. The race is 5.5-miles in length and runners will travel over Taylor Hill and finish at the Ballfield.
Pewter Mugs are awarded to the top male and female finishers, and mugs are awarded in top finishers in eight division. T-shirts are given to the first 60 entries.
The 16th Mini-Mug is two miles in length and also finishes at the Ballfield. Registration is now open on runreg.com. Race info is available at Montaguemugrace.com
Northfield Road Race
Matt Bassett took the Northfield Road Race for a second week in a row, finishing the course in a time of 23 minutes, 43 seconds.
Marcy Cabanas took second (24:14), David Thomas came in third (25:18), Derek Postema finished fourth (25:57) and Erika Looman and Sylvia Mahon-Moore tied for fifth (27:32).

Toby Campbell and Riley Gray each knocked a single, a double and a triple while Quincy Audet added an RBI single to lead Pioneer Valley Tire to a 15-4 win over Fitzgerald Real Estate on Thursday in the GMLB AA playoffs.
Sebastian Gargone and Sam Edson both had two hits and Clara Behan had three hits in the loss.

Andy Sena and Matt Deane took low gross honors at the Timmons-Messer League at Northfield Golf Club on Wednesday, firing a 35.
After a match of cards, Mark Horta and Brian Cocco took second with a 36. Low net after match of cards was Andy Helgerson and Jim Jason with a 25, just ahead of Doug Field and Jack Letourneau. Kyle Matteson was match medalist with a 37.
Rick Stempel was closest to the pin on No. 6 (7-1) and Ronnie Parker was closest at No. 7 (7 inches).
