Bulletin Board: Ware knocks Frontier out of Mantle playoffs

Frontier’s Ben Caron and Austin D’Urso combined to hold Ware to just four hits on Wednesday in the second round of the PVYBL Mickey Mantle playoffs, but Ware was still able to put three runs across in the fifth inning and knocked Frontier out of the tournament with a 5-2 victory in Ware. 

Collin West cracked a triple, Harry West and Chris Gallagher each had a hit and an RBI while Austin D’Urso, Phillip Morin, Collin West, Gabe Solodky and Shawn Baumann hit safely in the loss. 

Softball

FCL

Kylee Gamache and Lindsey Taylor each cracked a double that scored three runs while Skyler Steele singled and doubled to lift the Menace to an 11-8 win over the Magic in a Franklin County Summer Softball League contest at Murphy Park on Wednesday. 

Jenna Petrowicz hit safely and struck out one in the circle while Raine Wonsey struck out eight in the win. 

Olivia Lemay doubled, singled and knocked in two runs, Claire Johnston knocked a hit and an RBI while Ella Rotkiewicz and Kristen Sevoian hit safely for the Magic. Lemay added eight strikeouts in the circle. 

Golf

Thomas Women’s League

Sally Malloy carded the low gross of 40 while Kimberley Morin shot the low net of 29 in the Thomas Women’s League at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday.

Basketball

DRIVE League

Angel Castillo dropped 28 points while Ben Kearney tossed in 18 points to lift Athol to a 60-49 win over Frontier on Tuesday in a boys varsity playoff game of the DRIVE League at Greenfield High School. 

Max Millette scored 17 points while Nico Fasulo finished with 10 points for the Redhawks. 

Later Ben Jarrett recorded 11 points while Brian Pierce added 10 points as Hampshire walked away with a 37-31 win over Smith Academy. Willard Garrett put in 11 points while Greg Stone tallied 10 points for the Falcons. 

Franklin Tech Summer League

Kyler McClelland dropped 15 points while Addison Harrington tossed in 12 points, Hailey Ring scored 10 points, Fota N’Diaye finished with six points and Leah Potter scored three points to lead Pioneer to a 46-32 win over Mahar on Tuesday in a Franklin Tech Girls Summer Basketball League contest. 

Taylor Paluk scored 10 points, Alivia Patch finished with eight points, Nevaeh Scribner scored seven points, Dakota Cleveland had five points and Thea Whitmore added two points for the Sens. 

In the following game Frontier rolled to a 68-18 win over Mohawk Trail behind 21 points from Harper Modesto, 16 points from Hailey Hutkoski, 11 points from both Whitney Campbell and Skyler Steele and nine points from Ashley Taylor. 

Bella Pettengill scored three points, Irelyn Marcoux, Valerie Bzomowski, Abi Dobias, Riley Giard, Aurora Moynihan, Rachel Pease and Sarah Beckwith each had two points while Natalie Lanoue made a free throw in the loss. 

Later Hannah Gilbert scored 10 points, Kyra Goodell, Lea Chapman and Jenna Petrowicz each scored eight points, Brayleigh Burgh had two points and Lilianna Inman made a free throw as Franklin Tech earned a 37-6 win over Athol. Anna Duquette had four points while Abby Lutz scored two points for the Bears. 

To close out the night Sadie Cyr dropped 23 points while Madison Zononi scored nine points, Maggie Potter finished with eight points, Laynee Crutch scored six points and Anna Conklin and Cassidy Fyden each had two points as Hopkins walked away with a 50-27 win over Greenfield. 

Anna Bucala scored eight points in the loss. 

Adult softball

PV Women’s League

Caitlin Johnston tripled and knocked two doubles while Grace Ahrensdorf had a double, a triple and two singles in Brew Crew’s 15-9 win over Shelburne on Tuesday in a Pioneer Valley Women’s Softball League contest. 

Abby Lively homered, Alexis Farrick tripled while Shirley MacLean had two doubles and three RBIs in the loss. 

Greenfield co-ed

Che Christi (four hits, eight RBIs), Jade Cuevas (four hits, two RBIs), Mike Cole (four hits, five RBIs), Jacob Christi (three hits, two RBIs), Whitney Roberts (three hits, five RBIs) and Bob Badillo (three hits, three RBIs) led the Liberty Tax Sharks to a 31-11 win over Valley Contracting on Wednesday in a Greenfield co-ed adult softball game. 

Carin Freeman and Derek Duguay each had two hits in the loss.
