The Frontier girls basketball team looked like the top seed in the Franklin County Girls Summer Basketball League on Thursday. 

Taking on No. 8 Mohawk Trail in the opening round of the playoffs, the Redhawks raced out to a 35-6 halftime lead before cruising to a 56-14 victory at Franklin Tech. 

Hailey Hutkowski led the way with 19 points in the win. Harper Modesto tossed in 12 points, Skyler Steele finished with 11 points, Jazzy Hayes scored eight points, Ashley Taylor tallied four points while Whitney Campbell had two points to round out the Frontier scoring. 

Bella Pettengill and Natalie Lanoue each scored four points while Irelyn Marcoux, Valerie Bzomowski and Abi Dobias each scored two points for the Warriors. 

In the second game of the night No. 4 Mahar pulled away with a 34-18 win over No. 5 Hopkins behind 16 points from Nevaeh Scribner, six points from Taylor Paluk, five points from Dakota Cleveland, four points from Thea Whitmore, two points from Alivia Patch and a free throw from Haylee Paluk. 

Sadie Cyr and Madison Zanoni both scored six points, Cassidy Fyden finished with three points, Maggie Potter had two points and Olivia Earle made a free throw for the Golden Hawks. 

In the third game of the night Lea Chapman scored 12 points, Kyra Goodell finished with eight points, Hannah Gilbert scored seven points, Cordelia Guerin finished with six points, Jenna Petrowicz, Brayleigh Burgh and Madyson Lynde each had four points while Trinity Doane made a free throw as Franklin Tech earned a 46-27 win over Greenfield. 

Amber Bergeron (15), Gloria McDonald (8), Ever Kennedy (3) and Anna Bucala (1) led Greenfield in scoring. 

To close out the night Adddison Harrington dropped 16 points, Hailey Ring tossed in 15 points, Kyler McClelland scored 13 points, Fota N’Diaye scored five points and Leah Potter added three points as Pioneer knocked off Athol, 52-7. Ally Robertson scored three points while Jenna Bonenfant and Brooke Bernier each had two points for the Bears. 

DRIVE League

Men’s League playoffs in the DRIVE League began on Wednesday at Greenfield High School, with John Earle scoring 19 points and Justin Ciagl   o adding 12 points to lift Antonio’s Pizza to a 58-50 win over Amherst Office Park. Zayed Sadiq scored 13 points in the loss. 

In the second game of the night Rob Jones scored 20 points and Ben Lewis added 15 points in Team No Name’s 73-60 victory over Rattigan & Son’s. Robin Marchese (18) and Malachi Roman (14) led the scoring for Rattigan. 

In the third game on Wednesday Matt Petro went off for 40 points while Tyson Dowdy chipped in 20 points as Team Markol advanced with a 73-64 triumph over The Future. Josh Hansen scored 18 points while Jalen Sanders added 15 points in the loss. 

To close out the night OSC-Manning earned a 62-59 win over Brattleboro behind 17 points from Brady Elliott and 13 points from Tom Manning. Oakley Mayer (19) and Greg Fitzgerald (11) led Brattleboro in scoring. 

In boys JV action in the DRIVE League at Stoneleigh Burnham on Wednesday Chris Colon and Connor Dixon combined for 22 points in Hinsdale’s 49-27 win over Athol. Ollie Goodwin led the Bears with nine points. 

Later Lobsang Rabter scored 15 points while David Jung-Hernandez added 14 points to lift Greenfield past Easthampton, 70-26. Chase Canon-Smith scored 11 points for the Eagles. 

Running

Northfield Road Race

Cyrus Belmot was first to  cross the finish line in this weeks Northfield Su mmer Road Race on Thursday, coming across in a time of 20 minutes, 51 seconds.

Nathaniel Belmont wasn’t far behind in second (20:54), while Mason Youmellfinished in third (26:18). Derek Postema took fourth (26:34), Garrett Postema came in fifth (26:45) and Lindsey Chirichiello was the top female finisher while taking sixth overall (26:57). 17 runners and walkers participated.

Softball

FCL

Emma Little, Taylor Underwood, Ava Worden, Madison Urban and Brayleigh Burgh each had a base hit while Burgh struck out eight in the circle to lift the Flyers to a 5-4 win over the Fury in a Franklin County Summer Softball League playoff game on Wednesday. 

Summer Routhier, Abby Moffatt, Lucia Jacoby and Maya Pajak singled in the loss for the Fury. 

In other playoff action Carson Farrell, Kayden Viencek, Riana Shaw and Samantha LaFlesh each had base hits while Mia Shaw struck out 11 to lift the Bombers to a 10-8 win over the Defenders on Wednesday. 

Maggie Fay, Kat Martini , Gianna Discuilio, Alivia Patch and Alana Bonilla hit safely for the Defenders while Fay struck out 12 in the circle. 

Golf

Timmons-Messer

Curt White and Bob Lapierre won a match of cards against Doug Turner and Norm LaCoy to card the low gross of 36 in the Timmons-Messer League at the Northfield Golf Course. 

Mike Stephens and Ed Gillespie won a match of cards over Bob Moco and Mike LaCoy to finish with the low net of 23. Rodney Ebbighausen won closest to the pin on No. 6 (nine inches) while Dan Campbell won on No. 7 (five feet, five inches). 

Stephens, White and Norm LaCoy were the match medalists with scores of 36. 

Adult softball

PV Women’s

Nikki Pullen had two hits and four RBIs, Taylor Boutwell knocked two hits and brought in a run while Mikayla Tatro and Mckensie Colburn each had two hits as Ashfield earned an 11-3 win over Brew Crew on Thursday in a Pioneer Valley Women’s Softball League contest.
