Bulletin Board: Pioneer alum Scott McDonough shines at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational for UMass Dartmouth

UMass Dartmouth’s Scott McDonough had a career performance at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational in New London, Conn., on Saturday. 

McDonough, a Greenfield native who graduated from Pioneer Valley Regional, hit a mark of 23 feet, 2.25 inches in the long jump, which was a career best for him in the event. The jump also qualified him for the NEICAA and New England Div. III postseason meets. 

The mark of 23-2.25 ranks 14th in all of Div. III so far this season. It was the third-best long jump performance of all-time at UMass Dartmouth. The big weekend earned him the Little East Conference’s Field Athlete of the Week award.

Four Rivers wins tourney

The Four Rivers boys ultimate team went down to East Greenwich, R.I., on Sunday for the Lemony Springs Tournament and walked away with a first place finish. 

The Otters knocked off Amherst College (13-4) and UNH (13-4) to reach the championship game, where it beat Amherst High School, 13-2. 

Caleb Bird-Richards tallied seven points and three assists, Isaiah Goleman recorded four points while Russell Herbert and Cooper Whitney led the way on defense for Four Rivers.

On Saturday, the Deerfield Academy girls water polo team beat Geenwich (18-17) in double overtime and later in the day, beat Phillips Andover, 12-7. 

Elsewhere, the DA boys lacrosse team shut out Westminster, 17-0, the Big Green girls lacrosse team fell to Middlesex, 13-12, while the DA girls tennis team lost to Groton, 8-1.
