Bulletin Board: Noah deRuiter wins first Northfield Summer Road Race

The Northfield Summer Road Race Series kicked off Thursday, with Noah deRuiter winning the opening race by completing the 3.3 mile course in a time of 22 minutes, 41 seconds. Twenty-five runners and five walkers participated.

Marcy Cabanas was second across the finish line (23:53), followed by William Thomas (24:05), David Thomas (24:21) and Matt Bassett (24:57). 

The Northfield Summer Road Race is a weekly 3.3 mile race that starts at 6:30 p.m. at the back parking lot of 105 Main Street in Northfield. The race runs every Thursday from now through August, with registration beginning at 6 p.m. 

Walkers are welcome, can start early and take a shorter course. The cost is $4 per runner with a maximum cost of $10 per family. Members of school cross country or track teams run for free.

Youth baseball

GMLB

Liam Gould struck out eight while Preston Charboneau, PJ Brodeur and Adrian Lopez each had a hit in Smitty’s Pub’s 5-1 win over Lundgren Honda in a GMLB AAA contest on Thursday. 

AJ Holder tripled while Anthony Ruggeri had two hits for Lundgren. 

Also on Thursday, Kaydin Snow Rose tallied two hits and Tyler Pietrowski scored three times in New Fortune's 11-10 win over Aubuchon Hardware. Liam Bassett and Michael Dixon each had two hits while Cooper Hobbs hit safely for Aubuchon.

GGSL

Raine Wonsey doubled, Bella Trinque and Lenyx White singled while Wonsey, Lexi Hawkins, Lindsey Hawkins and Jaelyn Boliski combined to strike out 10 in Triton Automotive’s 15-3 win over Camelot Carpet Cleaners on Thursday in a GGSL Ponytail contest. 

Avery Cutting, Eva Lareau and Harper Kingsbury each had a hit for Camelot. 

On Wednesday Boliski struck out nine, White singled and doubled while Lexi Hawkins doubled and tripled in Triton Automotive’s 14-5 win over Pipione’s Sport Shop. 

Charlie Lovett, Leah Batiste and Emerson Russell each had a hit in the loss. 

Tri-County

Ryleigh Goodwin and Evy Lewis each struck out three, Abigail Fourtier had a strikeout, Maggie Tsipenyuk drove in two with a double, Janessa Sadler had two hits and an RBI while Josephine Hescock singled in the Northfield Cougars’ 11-11 tie with Vernon Red on Wednesday. 

Molly Kunkle struck out one while Hannah Squires had eight strikeouts for Vernon. 

Golf

Timmons-Messer League

Rich Drozdal and Ed Terault won a match of cards over Matt Sykes and Walt Sanieski to shoot the low gross of 37 in the Timmons-Messer League on Wednesday at the Northfield Golf Course. 

Bob Bateman and Ronnie Parker won a match of cards over Jack Letourneau and Pete Lankowski to shoo the low net of 26. Dan Castine won closest to the pin on No. 6 (16 feet, three inches) while Letourneau won on No. 7 (1-8). Sanieski and Jeff Seymour were the match medalists with scores of 38. 

Adult softball

Montague Co-ed

Parker Hickey had four hits, Jenna Putala knocked five hits while Kyle Dodge had a pair of homers in St. Stan’s 22-7 win over AGH Disposal and Recycling Thursday in a Montague co-ed softball game. 

Matt Weeden and Yohenny Pimental each had three hits while Heather Willor had two hits in the loss.
