Kelsey Richardson and the Herkimer College (N.Y.) softball team are back in the NJCAA Division III Softball World Series.

Richardson — a Greenfield alum — helped the Generals take the Region 3A finals by taking two out of three games against Jefferson City, allowing Herkimer to advance to the World Series. 

Richardson tallied a double and two RBIs in the decisive Game 3 against Jefferson City. In 27 games this season, Richardson batted .329, smashing three home runs and 19 RBIs. 

Richardson and Herkimer, seeded seventh in the eight-team field, will open the double-elimination Div. 3 tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. against No. 2 Patrick & Henry Community College on Wednesday at 3 p.m. 

FCL softball registration

Registration for the Franklin County Summer Softball League ends on May 31. 

The league plays games on Monday’s and Wednesday’s between June 19 through July 31 at Murphy Park in Greenfield. The league is open to any girl entering grades 8-12 next fall. Players will be distributed evenly among teams and every effort will be made to ensure that all pitchers are receiving innings throughout the summer. 

The cost is $100 per player, which covers umpires, jersey, socks and the cost of softballs. Players will be required to have their own pants and belt. Registration fees can be made in checks to Greenfield Girls Softball and sent to PO Box 1522, Greenfield, MA 01302 or paid through venmo @GreenfieldGirls-SoftballLeague.

K of C tourney

The 11th annual Knights of Columbus tournament took place on Friday at Crumpin-Fox Club, with Don Mailloux, Paul Barnard, Jeff Jackman and Bob Betsold taking first place in the Men’s Division. 

Jane Smith, Sara Tine, Phyllis Videtich and Robin Hartnett won the Women’s Division while Bob Provost, Jessica Provost, Brody Conant and Sandy Conant won the Mixed Division.

A tournament highlight came on the par 4 seventh hole, where John Marchefka used a driver to sink a hole-in-one. The feat was witnessed by Dr. Jeffrey Collura, Casey Fahey and Brian Knowles.

Maniatty’s Real Estate 6, Gilmore & Farrell 4 — Jackson Puchalski, Carter Gunnison and Logan Batiste each had a hit while Fischer Williams and Phillip Brodeur pitched in Maniatty’s win on Monday. 

Bryce Zraunig and James McCarthy each had two hits for Gilmore. 

Smitty’s Pub 14, Denny’s Pantry 5 — Asa Bouchard tallied a hit and an RBI, Carter Malouin singled, doubled and drove in two runs, Preston Charbonneau had a hit and two RBIs while Sammy Lawler doubled and drove in two in Smitty’s victory on Monday. 

Xaviay Reynolds singled, tripled and drove in two while Fred Burnap pitched for Denny’s.

Camelot Carpet Cleaners 10, Franklin First Federal Credit Union 4 — Elise LaPrade smashed three hits while Danielle Zraunig doubled in Camelot’s triumph on Monday.
