It’s been a freshman season to remember for Greenfield alum Kelsey Richardson with the Herkimer College softball team.

Richardson — who helped lead the Green Wave to a state championship last spring — was named captain in her first season and played a big role in the Generals winning the NJCAA Region III North B District final last week. Richardson drove in the game-winning run in the opening contest of the championship series against Onondaga Community College, with Herkimer ultimately winning game two to take home the title.

The Generals earned a spot in the 2023 NJCAA Div. III Softball World Series, where they’ll open play on Wednesday against Rowan College South Jersey – Gloucester.

Richardson enters the tournament with strong numbers on the season, batting .324, slugging .467 and posting a whopping .991 fielding percentage as a catcher.
