Bulletin Board: Frontier to host youth basketball clinic on Aug. 20

Frontier is hosting a summer basketball youth skills clinic on Sunday, Aug. 20 at Goodnow Gymnasium. 

The clinic will be led by current college and high school players, including former Redhawk Peter Carey who is now playing at Syracuse. The cost is $25 per person, with the first session for those in grades 3-5 running from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and the second session for those in grades 6-8 running from 1-3:30 p.m.

The clinic is open to both boys and girls. Athletes should bring sneakers, water and basketball attire. Day of registration for the first session begins at 9:30 a.m. while registration for the second session gets going at 12:30 p.m. To register in advance email Frontier boys basketball coach Josh Morse at varsitycoach@redhawksbasketball.com.

Tech seeks JV coach

Franklin County Technical School is looking for a JV/assistant varsity boys soccer coach for the upcoming fall season.

Northfield Road Race

Marc Guillaume was the winner of this weeks Northfield Summer Road Race, taking first with a time of 23 minutes, 16 seconds on Thursday. 

Neal Gifford placed second (23:49) while Seneca Smith was the first female finisher while taking third overall (24:26). Joe Snikaris (26:25) and Derek Postema (26:31) rounded out the top five finishers.

Northfield Golf Course

The pairings of Curt White and John Hodgman (34) and Rob Schrader and Brad Stafford (36) had the two low gross scores in the Timmons-Messer League at the Northfield Golf Course on Wednesday. 

Walt Sanieski and Bob Lapierre won a match of cards over Marty Powers and Brian Cocco to shoot the low net of 26. 

In closest to the pin Marty Powers won it on No. 6 (seven feet, eight inches) while Ronnie Parker won on No. 7 (7-10). White was the match medalist with a 36. 

Thomas Memorial

Wendy Kendrick and Deb Cote tied for the low gross of 44 in the Thomas Women’s League on Wednesday at Thomas Memorial. 

Kate Dwyer shot the low net (26) while Annie Cairl won closest to the pin on No. 7 (13-3). 

Also on Wednesday at Thomas Memorial Ron Lenois and Kent McGahan tied for the top point quota of plus-7 in the Knights of Columbus League. 

Bill Roussel Sr. won closest to the pin on No. 7 (7-5) while Stephan Smith won it on No. 9 (9-7). Darren Lenois, Mike Waterman, Jaime Deery and Dave Dion won skins while Ron Lenonis, McGahan and Bob Bourbeau shot the low gross of 36. 

CCG

The Country Club of Greenfield held its Husband-Wife Championship last Sunday, with Keegan Downie and Casey Gavin placing first with a gross score of 66. 

Mike Archer and Elizabeth Archer took second (70) while Anthony wonseski and Elizabeth Dolby came in third (73). 

In net scoring Carl Hoynoski and Jodi Hoynoski placed first (56), Chris Varilly and Angie Varilly took second (62) while Mark Kennedy and Mary Jo Kennedy tied with the partners of Ryan Martin and Kelli Martin and Jack Killeen and Barb Killeen for third (65). 

■ In a Best Front/Best Back/Best 18 contest in the 18 Hole Women’s League at CCG on Tuesday Terry Boyce had the low total gross score of 72, followed by Teresa Varner (83) and Susan O’Connor (89). 

In net scoring O’Connor and Michele Hazlett tied for first (71) while Varner and Ann McHugh tied for second (72). 

■ Bill Erman and Paul Viens (55.5), Bob Ferris and Vinnie Melendez (53.5) and Greg Call and Bob Zaikowski (53.5) finished with the top points in the Greenfield Elks League last week. 

Melendez won closest to the pin on No. 2 (16-9) while Tom Rogers won on No. 5 (6-3). 

This week in the Greenfield Elks League Ferris and Melendez took first (62.5), Frank McDonald and Art Belanger came in second (61) while Bill Erman and Paul Viens tied with Sharon Rawson and Jonathan Moore for third (60.5). 

Jamie Bozek sank a hole in one on No. 2 while McDonald won closest to the pin on No. 5 (12-1). 

Adult softball

Pioneer Valley Women’s League

The Pioneer Valley Women’s Adult Softball League wrapped up its season last weekend at Pettingill Field, with Conway earning an 8-3 win over Brew Crew to take home the title. 

Megan West had four hits and two RBIs, Kristin Smead knocked three hits and brought in two runs while Molly MacMunn had two hits for Conway. 

Maddy Atkocaitis singled and tripled, Tracy Gray Warner had two RBIs and Makayla Tatro cracked three hits for Brew Crew. 

Montague co-ed

Jake Sisson (four hits), Tyler Lavin (four hits, two RBIs), Brittany York (three hits) and Kramer Patenaude (three hits) lifted St. Stan’s to a 13-10 win over AGH Disposal and Recycling on Thursday in a Montague Co-ed Adult Softball League contest. 

Yohenny Pimentel (four hits, four RBIs), Matt Gibson (three hits) and Whitney Roberts (three hits) led AGH in the loss.
