Bulletin Board: Frontier’s Evan Hedlund competes at Nike Outdoor Nationals

Frontier eighth grader Evan Hedlund traveled out to Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon Thursday to compete in the Nike Outdoor National meet. 

Hedlund, competing in the middle school mile, got to go up against the top runners from around the country and faired well. He completed the mile in a time of four minutes, 43.82 seconds, which earned him 17th place overall in a field of 99 runners. 

Baseball

GMLB

Mason Lovett and Blake White both knocked three hits while Noah Stoffolano had a pair of hits, three RBIs and two strikeouts on the mound to lead Gagne Wealth Management to the GMLB AA title game with a 12-3 win over Ginger Cat Sealcoating on Thursday. 

Jacolby Dyer had three hits, Rowan Hickey knocked two hits while Clara Behan singled and doubled for Ginger Cat. 

Mickey Mantle

Kaiden James had two hits, one a double, and brought in a run while Harry West cracked a hit and two RBIs in Frontier’s 3-2 Mantle win over Athol on Thursday in South Deerfield. 

West struck out four while Austin D’Ursu struck out seven in the win.

James Williams had a hit while Alex Lavigne struck out 10 for Athol. 

Youth softball

GGSL

Dani Zraunig had two hits and a double play while Elise LaPrade and Evelyn Eldridge knocked in runs in Franklin First Credit Union’s 3-2 win over the Elks Club on Tuesday in a GGSL Junior contest. 

Parker Gebo-Luttenegger and Emma Tuttle each had three hits for Elks Club. 

Road racing

Northfield Road Race

Marcy Cabanas came in first place in this week’s Northfield Summer Road Race, completing the 3.3 mile course in 22 minutes, four seconds. Rounding out the top five finishers were David Thomas (23:34), Neal Gifford (24:02), Matt Bassett (24:20) and Joe Snikeris (25:54). Twenty runners and seven walkers participated.

Golf

Timmons-Messer League

Walt Sanieski and Andy Chartier (37) edged out Norm LaCoy and Bob Perlman (38) to shoot the low gross in the Timmons-Messer League at the Northfield Golf Course on Wednesday. 

Roland Racine and Brad Stafford won a match of cards over Harry Hyams and Andy Sena to card the low net of 27. Tom Almstead won closest to the pin on No. 6 (eight feet, nine inches) while Don Letourneau won it on No. 7 (12-10). Sena was the match medalist with a 38. 

 Adult softball

Montague co-ed

Joe Guidaboni and Matt Gibson each had four hits, Matt Weeden had three hits while Marcy Conway, Josh Lashway and Vinny Natale had two hits in AGH Disposal and Recycling’s 18-13 win over Manny’s in a Montague co-ed softball game on Thursday. 

Billy Macfaul and Stephanie Scott each had three hits while Mike Cole had two hits in the loss.
