It was quite a second round for a pair of local golf teams a the 43rd Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship at The Club at New Seabury in Mashpee.

Crumpin-Fox Club’s Mark Waskiewicz and Troy Miller went low on the Dunes course to earn the best finish of any local team. The duo fired a 5-under 65 (six birdies) to finish the two-day event at 6-under 136 – good for a tie for 20th place in a field of 192 teams.

Country Club of Greenfield’s Andy Lesenski and Cody Booska shook off a 1-over-par round during Day 1, and saved their best for the second and final round on Thursday.

Booska and Lesenski posted a 5-under 67 on the Ocean course at New Seabury, finishing 4-under overall – good enough for a share of 36th place. The pair came out on fire, sinking birdies on four of their first seven holes to climb the leaderboard.

Crumpin-Fox Club’s Keith Burch and Justin Dion finished their weather-suspended Round 1 on Thursday morning, posting a scorching 6-under 64 to enter Round 2 in the top five. But the pair weren’t able to replicate the same success on the Ocean course, as they shot 3-over 75 and finished at 3-under for the tournament (tied for 49th).

CCG’s Jason Kelton and CFC’s Dave Donoghue shot 71 on Thursday and finished in a tie for 118th overall.

Nick Maccario and Andrew DiRamio won a playoff against Matt Parziale and Herbie Aikens to capture the Four-Ball title. Both teams finished at 14-under 128, and it took two playoff holes before Maccario and DiRamio hoisted the trophy.

Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston is hosting the International Independent Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, the first national championship level experience for golfers from independent schools.

The event will feature a team and individual competition for golfers from the United States and abroad. All teams are welcome to compete as well as unaffiliated individuals. The top-four finishers in both the boys and girls divisions will receive exemptions into the Regional Final of the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship.

The team tournament will mirror a traditional college tournament, with teams of up to five golfers competing in a medal play format. A parallel goal of the tournament is to increase exposure to college coaches for our athletes.

The event is open to all golfers who have yet to reach their 19th birthday by June 15th, 2024 and were enrolled at an independent school during the 2023-24 academic year. Coaches can register a team entry (and provide player information later) or have students sign up directly through the tournament website at iiigolf.com. A minimum of four players is needed to form a team, and there is no limit to the number of entries per school. Golfers need not be part of a team to register and may sign up individually. For questions, the III Tournament Committee can be reached at info@iiigolf.com.
