The 2023 West County Cider Beacon Red Clay Court Classic, presented by the Greenfield Rec Department and Greenfield Tennis Association, gets underway on Monday at 5:30 p.m. 

The men’s singles tournament is a best of three sets event with a tiebreak and is single elimination. Players must start play at 5:30 each day, with tennis balls being supplied. Players must be available to play all week or until the draw is completed.

Dinner on the Bridge

Want to have dinner on the Iron Bridge this summer? The Mohawk Trail Athletic Department is giving you the opportunity to do that. 

The Mohawk Trail Athletic Association is taking over the Dinner on the Bridge fundraiser from the Shelburne Falls Business Association, with the event taking place on Aug. 20 on the Iron Bridge. Seating begins at 4:30 p.m.

Th e cost is $100, with all proceeds going to support  Mohawk Trail athletics. There will be a cash bar. The meal will be provided by Bash Catering and served by Mohawk Trail student athletes.

DRIVE League

The boys varsity playoffs in the DRIVE League got underway on Thursday at Greenfield High School, with Greenfield cruising to an 88-38 win over Smith Vocational behind 17 points from Caleb Murray and 15 points from Jacob Blanchard. 

Alex Soto led the Vikings with 15 points. 

In the second game of the night Morgan Softic finished with 13 points while Marshall Ames scored 10 points to lift Orange to a 48-44 win over Easthampton. Trevor Canon-Smith led the Eagles with 12 points. 

Franklin Tech Summer League

Skyler Steele finished with 15 points while Hailey Hutkoski scored 12 points, Olivia Machon finished with 10 points, Molly Gates scored five points and Whitney Campbell scored two points to lead Frontier to a 44-22 win over Mahar on Thursday in the first game of the night in the Franklin Tech Girls Summer Basketball League. 

Nevaeh Scribner finished with 11 points, Alivia Patch scored eight points, Hayden Comeau scored four points while Taylor Paluk made a free throw for the Senators. 

In the second game of the night Athol walked away with a 36-27 victory behind 10 points from Jenna Bonenfant, eight points from Anna Duquette, six points from Ally Robertson, four points from both Ava Adams and Olivia Horrigan and two points from Sammy Mailloux and Emily King. 

Niyah Strohman and Ever Kennedy each had six points while Natalia Cody scored five points for the Green Wave. 

Later, Lea Chapman scored 13 points, Kyra Goodell finished with 10 points, Lilianna Inman tallied six points and Brayleigh Burgh scored three points as Franklin Tech earned a 32-22 win over Hopkins Academy. Maggie Potter (12), Anna Conklin (four), Madison Zononi (four) and Cailie Edwards (two) led the Golden Hawks in scoring. 

The final game on Thursday saw Addison Harrington drop 23 points, Fota N’Diaye put in 18 points, Leah Potter tally eight points, Hailey Ring score six points, Kiara Gruszkowski score two points and Kyler McClelland make a free throw to lead Pioneer to a 58-15 win over Mohawk Trail. 

Bella Pettengill recorded six points, Riley Giard and Sarah Beckwith each scored four points while Abi Dobias made a free throw in the loss.
