Bulletin Board: Mason scores game-winner for Amherst field hockey

Greenfield resident Kat Mason came through in the clutch for the Amherst College field hockey team on Saturday in the NESCAC quarterfinals. 

Taking on second-seeded Tufts, the No. 7 Mammoths found themselves in a 2-2 tie in the final minute of overtime. Mason, a junior who attended Frontier for two years completing high school at The Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, Conn., stole the ball at midfield, dribbled over 50 yards before blasting a shot into the cage to lift Amherst into the semis with a 3-2 win. It was Mason’s second goal of the game. 

The Mammoths move on to face No. 1 Middlebury on Saturday. 

Youth football

Kaydin Snow-Rose ran for 54 yards and two scores while Brock Puchalski had 74 yards and a touchdown to lift the Franklin County PeeWee Bulldogs to a 27-6 win over Quabbin on Sunday in a quarterfinal matchup. 

Sean Winslow ran in three two-point tries and had four tackles, Collin Winslow and Kaydin Snow-Rose each had four tackles, Puchalski nad Broooks Williams both had three tackles and Toby Campbell made two tackles in the win. 

The Frontier PeeWees beat Ludlow, 12-0, to advance to the semis behind a fumble return touchdown from Harry Doody and Troy Kostiuk returned fumbles for a touchdown, Prestyn Petrizzi-Richmond forced a fumble and Jordon Wenztel had multiple tackles for loss in the win. 

Deerfield Academy scores

The Deerfield Academy football team earned a 45-19 win over Phillips Andover on Saturday while the DA boys water polo team beat Andover, 12-9. 

Also on Saturday the Big Green girls soccer team tied Andover, 2-2, while the DA boys soccer team fell to Andover, 4-2. In volleyball DA beat Andover, 3-0 while in field hockey, the Big Green fell to Andover, 3-1.
