Bulletin Board: Western Mass. Mother’s Day Half Marathon taking place on Sunday in Whately

The 13th annual Western Mass Mother’s Day Half Marathon is being held in Whately on Sunday, with the walkers and fun-runners race getting going at 7:30 a.m. while the half marathon is beginning at 8 a.m. on Christian Lane near the Whately Police and Fire Station. 

The course is USATF certified and is fairly flat with a few rolling hills, making it a good beginners course. The first 500 runners to register will receive a free race shirt. 

The run is to benefit Cancer Connection, who’s mission is to provide a haven where people with cancer and their loved ones can learn how to navigate the complicated cancer journey through one-on-one guidance, education, peer support, integrative therapies and creative programs to strengthen body and spirit. Cancer Connection offers these services free of charge.

Post 81 tryouts

Roster spots are still available for the Post 81 Senior Legion team. All kids from Franklin County schools are eligible to tryout. A player must be 19 or under by Dec. 31, 2023. 

Tryouts will be held this Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Vets Field in Greenfield. Those trying out schold bring a glove, cleats and an original birth certificate. For more info contact coach Julian Diamond at 413-314-7166.

Terry Boyce and Valerie Esquer took first with a net score of 63 in a blind draw partners contest in the 18 Hole Women’s League at the Country Club of Greenfield on Tuesday.

Ann McHugh and Irene McDonald took second (65), Diane Bradford and Alane Smith finished in third (66) while Lane Kelly and Janet Small finished in fourth (68).

■ In a back nine contest in the 9 Hole Women’s League at CCG on Tuesday, Tilly Clark won the Patty Berg Flight with a score of 41. 

TC Emerson and Diana Fordhman tied for first in the Nancy Lopez Flight (47), Karen Duclos won the Lorena Ochoa Flight (53), Ellen Bitzer took the Joanna Carner Flight (46), Irene McDonald came in first in the Annika Sorenstom Flight (51) and Kasey Herbert won the Michelle Wie Flight (59). 

Youth baseball

There wasn’t anything separating Pioneer Valley Tire and Rotary on Tuesday in a AAA contest, with the team battling to a 5-5 tie. 

Jackson Puchalski struck out seven, Fred Burnap had six strikeouts and Brady Selivamoff hit safely for Rotary. Fischer Williams struck out 11, Jackson Baker had five strikeouts and three hits at the plate while Xavier Woodard hit safely for Pioneer Valley Tire. 

■ Jacob Miller, Michael Dixon and Liam Bassett each had a pair of hits to lift Aubuchon’s Hardware to an 11-9 win over Bobby C’s on Monday. 

Conor O’Connell, Eli Skinder, Elias Tripp and Anthony Bergstrom each had an RBI in the loss. 

■ Also on Monday Jonathan Bones knocked two hits while Noah Knox and Anthony Ruggeri each had a hit in Lundren Honda’s 5-0 win over Smitty’s Pub. 

Philip Brodeur struck out nine while Adrian Lopez and Emmett Escamilla each had two steals for Smitty’s. 

■ On Sunday Braith Brothers, Vinny Toothacker and Dezmond Jurkowksi each had two hits in Fitzgerald Real Estate’s 8-7 win over Ruggeri Real Estate. 

Xaviar Gibbons, Gabe Heineman and Cody Castine each had three hits in the loss.

Chase Greene (two hits, three RBI), Evan Wright (triple, double, two RBI), Grady Deery (single, triple) and Tyler Girard (two hits) helped lift TFAC to a 20-0 win over Greenfield Savings Bank on Tuesday. 

Blake Kosiorek had a hit while Westin Tela struck out two for GSB. 

■ Austin Platek struck out 10 an dadded a triple and two RBIs at the plate while Silas Lively added a hit in St. Stan’s 7-6 win over Pipione’s on Monday. 

Ava Barber and Spencer Towne both had two hits in the loss. 

Youth softball

Bailey Sibley and Ellie McIntyre each had three hits while Ava Martin knocked four hits in Precision Driving’s 10-0 win over Freedom Credit Union on Tuesday. 

Emma Prasol and Minka Niedzwiedz each hit safely for Freedom Credit. 

■ Also on Tuesday Alyza Rivera knocked in the game-winning RBI while Lycinia Guillemette had two hits and an RBI and Sylvia Berthe tallied two hits in the Elks’ 2-1 win over Franklin First Credit Union on Tuesday. 

Adeline Ebbinghausen and Dani Zraunig both had three hits and Shaye Tyler had a pair of hits and an RBI in the loss. 

■ Triton Automotive picked up a 4-3 win over Greenfield Garden Cinemas on Monday in a Ponytail contest behind nine strikeouts and a single and a double at the plate from Lexi Hawkins, a triple and two RBIs from Raine Wonsey and two hits from Lenyx White. 

Greta Lepore struck out 11 and added a single at the plate for Greenfield Garden. 

Adult softball

Brittany York had five hits, Kat Luippold and Devin Millerick each had four hits and Kelly Sadler had three hits in Thayer Street Builders 32-5 win over Valley Contracting on Tuesday. 

Mia Freeman had three hits in the loss.
