Bulletin board: Sam Schreiber pitches Frontier past Smith Academy, 4-0

Frontier pitcher Sam Schreiber struck out 11 in seven innings, blanking Smith Academy 4-0 in an independent baseball game on Saturday in South Deerfield.

The Redhawks scored three runs in the third inning, thanks to RBIs from Gabe Gochinski (hit by pitch) and Aidan Drury (walk).

Tyler Dubreuil drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, plating Iain Spearance to make it 4-0. Dubreuil finished with two hits while Kevin Baumann and Gochinski also had hits. Spearance scored twice for Frontier.

Will Dobson doubled and Logan Graves had a hit for the Falcons, which received a combined 11 strikeouts on the mound from Sam and Will Dobson.

Softball

Athol 4, Smith Academy 2 – Another stellar Saturday performance in the circle from Lindsey LeBlanc propelled the Bears to their 10th victory of the season.

LeBlanc struck out 15 in a complete-game outing, as host Athol scored a 4-2 victory over Smith Academy.

The Bears improved to 10-6 on the year. They have two big league games remaining against Hopkins Academy (Monday) and Franklin Tech (Wednesday).

LeBlanc allowed just two hits and three walks. She was 1-for-2 with an RBI at the plate.

Alyssa Logan and Kassidy Swan had two hits apiece for Athol, while Sam Kenniff, Sadey Lehtomaki and Jenna Bonenfant all drove in a run.

Mount Greylock 17, Mohawk Trail 9 – Adrian Grant smacked a pair of doubles for the Warriors in an independent loss on Saturday in Buckland.

Mya Lesieur, Rachel Pease and Aileen Moffatt also had hits for Mohawk Trail (5-10).

Youth baseball

GMLB

Wayde Bardwell’s go-ahead, solo home run over the mini Green Monster in left field propelled New Fortune to a 7-6 win over Maniatty Real Estate in a GMLB contest over the weekend.

New Fortune’s Conner Bergeron had a hit and scored two runs, and also pitched four innings for the win. Brody Welcome played well at shortstop and added an RBI.

Nico Siano and Caleb Dillensneider led Maniatty's offense, as Siano was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Dillensneider was 2-for-3 with a trio of RBIs.

Lindsey Hawkins was 4-for-4 while Kinsley Bergeron had three hits and Haylee DeLeo added two hits to send the Greenfield Elks to a 7-1 win over over Freedom Credit Union in GGSL Lil Nippers action on Saturday.

Freedom’s Samantha Rider and Sammi Suhl each went 2-for-2 while Riley Vallingham added a hit.

Preps

Deerfield results

In a tri-meet at the Hopkins School, the Deerfield Academy girls water polo team scored wins over host Hopkins (10-5) and Andover (12-2) to highlight a busy weekend for the Big Green.

Both rowing teams scored sweeps in action with NMH and Middlesex, while the girls tennis team was a 9-0 winner at Choate and the boys tennis team took a 5-2 win at Exeter.

The baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Andover (8-0, 2-0), while the softball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Andover.

On Friday, the boys lacrosse team edged Avon, 13-11, and the girls team scored a 10-8 win over Pomfret.
