Bulletin Board: Franklin County Green scores weekend Babe Ruth sweep

Kyle Begos pitched three innings allowing no runs and striking out four before Ben Werner and Austin D’Urso pitched the final three innings of relief to give the Franklin County Green Babe Ruth baseball team a 7-3 win over Westfield Green on Sunday at Abercrombie Field. 

Begos and Brandon Engelke-Aiken each knocked in two RBIs with Werner, Joey Mosca and D’Urso recording hits. Amory Maxey, Brayden McDonough and Tyler Cusson scored runs in the winning effort. 

On Saturday, Franklin County Green earned a 13-7 win on the road against Northampton behind three RBI performances from Urijah Jenness and D’Urso. 

McDonough and Engelke-Aiken both had two hits — one double each — while Cusson blasted a triple. Begos had a pair of hits and an RBI while Mosca and Aiden Heffernan both had an RBI as well. 

Cusson earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings and striking out six Northampton batters. Jenness came in relief and struck out a pair before Mosca closed out the game. 


Valley Storm

It was a strong weekend for the 14U Valley Storm softball team, who swept a doubleheader against the Western MA Warriors over the weekend, winning 5-4 and 17-5. 

In the first game, Bri Lynch went the distance on the mound, striking out seven Warriors. Amelia Pierce had a hit and an RBI and Lynch also added a hit. 

Lily Ross got the start in the second game, not allowing a run and adding a strikeout while going the distance. 

Hannah Gilbert had two hits, one a double, and an RBI in the winning effort. Delaney Fifield also had two hits an an RBI while Skyler Steele knocked a triple and an RBI. 

Lillian Day had a double, Pierce singled and drove in three RBIs and Margarette Howland, Maggie Potter and Lynch each had an RBI.
