Bulletin Board: Luippold aces 2nd hole at Greenfield

Brian Luippold of Greenfield hit a hole-in-one on the second hole at the Country Club of Greenfield, Thursday. 

The ace came from 148 yards out, with Luippold using a 7-iron. It was witnessed by Mark Kennedy, John Walker and Larry Houle. 


Ashfield Golf Club

Katie Benedetti and Tony Warhol took first in a scramble at the Ashfield Community Golf Club, Thursday, with a score of 37. 

Terry Norwood and Diane O’Connell took second with a score of 40. 


Northfield Road Race

Dana McRae was the first to cross the finish line in the seventh edition of the Northfield Road Race, Thursday, with a time of 22:42. 

McRae edged Max Van Baaren (22:43) by just one second, and Jack Loud (22:45) by three seconds. 

Bob Bezio took fourth with a time of 23:02 and Noah de Ruiter was fifth with a 24:07 finish. 

Rounding out the top 10 was Jon Reed (25:25), Neal Gifford (25:28), Alex Loud (27:15), John Fay (27:36) and Chuck Adams (27:47). 

Chris Waslaske (28:06), Jahyde Bullard (28:25), Illaria Decesderrier (28:26) and Daniel Decesderrier (28:28) all finished in under 30 minutes. 

Bob Emberley (35:02), Cathy Coutu (35:14) and Mary Buckley (36:01) were the final runners across the finish line. 

Dodi Hall, Dona Hall, Stephanie Winslow and Ashley Dufraine all walked the course. 

Montague Mug Race

Registration is still going for the 39th annual Montague Mug Race, set for Aug. 17 at the Village Common.

The 5.5-mile race blasts off at 8:30 a.m. Pewter Mugs are awarded to top male/female finishers and coffee mugs to top finishers of each division. T-shirts are given to the first 90 runners.

Now in its 15th year, the Mini Mug Race will kick off at 8:35. This 2-mile course is a great scenic route around the Old South Cemetery. Both races will finish at the ball field. All runners are entered into drawing for local prizes. The course is well marked with plenty of water stops and features a few challenging hills with a run along the Connecticut River.

Maynard Race 

The 25th Annual Don Maynard 5 Mile Road Race and 2.5 mile walk is taking place Sept. 21, starting at 9:30 a.m. The race starts and finishes at the Greenfield Municipal Swimming Area. Frontier fall start times 

Frontier Regional School announced the following opening dates and times for their 2019 fall sports season.

Varsity and JV football will have its equipment handout Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. Conditioning practice will be Friday, Aug. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. 

Middle school football opens Monday, Aug. 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Boys and girls cross country grades 7-12 begins Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m behind the High School.

Boys soccer varsity and JV tryouts for grades 8-12 are Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9:45 a.m. to noon and 5-7:00 p.m. at Herlihy Park.

Boys middle school soccer begins Thursday, Aug. 22 from 12-1:30 p.m. at Herlihy Park.

Girls soccer varsity and JV tryouts for grades 7-12 is Thursday, Aug. 22 from 8-10:00 a.m. and  3:00-4:30 p.m. at Herlihy Park.              

Field hockey varsity, JV and middle school tryouts are Thursday, Aug. 22 from 8:30 a.m. till noon.

Girls volleyball tryouts are Thursday, Aug. 22. Returning varsity players, JV players and newcomers grades 10-12 will go from 1-4 p.m, seventh graders, eighth graders and newcomers grades 7-9 go from 5-7 p.m.

Golf tryouts for grades 7-12 are Thursday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.

All potential players must register on Family ID (Familyid.com) and have a medical exam, within 13 months of the first practice date, on record with Frontier to be eligible to participate. Please be aware that student athletes will become ineligible to participate on the exact day 13 months from their last physical exam date.


Babe Ruth

Babe Ruth sign ups for the Fall Ball Program will run on Aug. 9, Aug. 12 and Aug. 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 and again on Aug. 10 and Aug. 17 from 11 to noon. 

All registrations will be held at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield. The registration fee is 85 dollars for the first player, then 75 for a sibling. 

The league is open to 12, 13 and 14 year olds as of April 30 and is a program for players who wish to extend their summer baseball season and gain experience on a full-size, 90-foot diamond.

The Greenfield Tennis Association is holding a Mixed Doubles tennis event Saturday at the Beacon Field courts starting at 9 a.m.  The entry fee is 5 dollars per team for members and 10 dollars for non-members. All fees go to maintaining Greenfield’s clay tennis courts. Please bring an unopened can of tennis balls. Format will depend on the number of teams.
