Bulletin Board: Morgan’s two homers lift Main Street past Riff’s

Ben Morgan hit two home runs and Cam Ursia also launched a long ball to help Main Street Bar & Grille to a 16-10 win over Riff’s North in a Greenfield Co-Rec League softball game Tuesday night at Green River Park.

Kyrsten Rafferty came through with a hit for Main Street.

Riff’s received four hits each from Morghan Orrell and Pat McCarthy, with McCarthy striking out four in the pitching circle. Alyssa Devlin added three hits.

• Elsewhere, Javier Morales hit a home run, Kim Burniske was 3-for-3 and Colton Yezierski added two hits to lift RG Penfield & Sons to a 6-4 victory over the Montague Elks at Greenfield Middle School.

The Elks received three hits from John Dewicki and two hits Abby Loynd.

• In other action Tuesday, Luis Melendez was 4-for-5 with two doubles to lift Beck’s Auto past Concord Optical, 20-16, at Green River Park.

Beck’s received three hits, including a double, to go with five RBIs from Sunny Lucas. Jon Rosario was 3-for-4 and Maddy Atkocaitis was 3-for-5 in the win.

Concord’s Justin Nash paced his club with four hits and five runs scored.

• Also, Seth Aldrich homered, tripled and roped two doubles to go with five RBIs in a Hubie’s Tavern 24-9 win over Business & Pleasure at Hillside Park.

Evan Rice registered four hits with two doubles, Stefanie Williams had five hits, and Jenn Senn added a double and two RBIs.

Business & Pleasure’s Josh Lashway finished with three hits, including a triple, and Leanne Emond added two hits.

Baseball

Sandy Koufax

Wyatt Edes continued to swing a hot bat, smacking three hits, including a double, and driving in two runs but visiting Hubie’s Tavern West County Warriors dropped a 13-8 decision to Dalton in a PVYBL Sandy Koufax game, Tuesday night at Pine Grove Park.

Gabe Selig roped two hits and drove in four runs for the Warriors, with Jacob Martin adding two hits and an RBI. Weston Den Ouden, Rosco Palmer and Cole Johnson each had a hit, as West County finished with 10 on the night.

Sam Thompson made his Koufax debut on the mound, coming on in relief and striking out four in 2⅔ innings of work.

West Couny heads to Northampton on Friday.

F.C. Babe Ruth All-Star

The bats were cracking for the South Team in the Franklin County Babe Ruth League All-Star Game at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield Monday night, leading to a 15-9 defeat of the North Team. 

The South Team finished with 19 hits, three off the bat of Gillis MacDougall, who tied with Jake Safford for a team-leading three RBIs. Joe Boyden went 3-for-4 with a double and Sasha Dragicevich reached base on all three at bats, knocking in a pair of runs. 

Nate Fuess and Mike Pierce both had two hits for the South Team and Sam Knight’s triple brought two runners home. Jordan Hunt, Tyler Cusson and Derek Wissmann each recorded singles. MacDougall, Cusson, Fuess and Pierce combined to throw 14 strikeouts while allowing nine hits. 

The North Team was led by Joey White, who was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Jake Whitney, who was 2-for-3 and knocked in a run.  T.J. Thibeault had an RBI double and Peter Loud, Kyle Begos, Ian Simpson and Dylan Fisher each recorded a hit.  Simpson, Thibeault, Whitney and Loud handled the pitching duties for the North Team. 

Golf

18 Hole Women’s League 

Teresa Varner’s gross score of 84 earned her first place in the A Flight at the 18 Hole Women’s League at the Country Club of Greenfield, Tuesday. 

Three golfers, Barb Killeen, Liz Dolby and Sue Sigda, posted net scores of 73. 

In the B Flight, Ann McHugh took first with a gross score of 94. Irene McDonald finished a net 68. 

9 Hole Women’s League 

Tilly Clark shot a 35 to take first in the Patty Berg Flight group Tuesday in the 9 Hole Women’s League at the Country Club of Greenfield. Clark was followed closely behind by Sue O’Connor, who shot a 39. 

In the Nancy Lopez Flight, Jenna Luippold shot a 37 and TC Emerson finished with a score of 41. Angela Berquist and Liz Archer tied for first with scores of 41 in the Lorena Ochoa Flight. 

Barbara Laczynski’s 45 topped the Joanna Carner Flight, followed by Donna Mowry and Kim French, who tied for second with scores of 47. Karen Kaczenski finished with a score of 49 to win the Annika Sorenstom Flight. Jean McGowan and Bonnie Duprey tied for second after posting scores of 51. 

Edge Hill Men’s 

Matt Vandale’s plus-6 point quota was tops in the A Division at Tuesday’s Edge Hill Men’s League action in Shelburne Falls.

Bill Buck had the low gross, carding a round of 37, while Mark Graves’ 32 was the low net in the A Division.

In the B Division, Jon Sonntag’s plus-9 quota was tops. Charlie Plesnar (42) had the low gross, and Sonntag (30) had the low net.

Matt’s Men’s League

Charlie McCracken shot 39, good enough for low gross at Tuesday’s Matt’s Men’s League played at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.

Noah Wallace’s 29 was the low net on the day. Closest to the pin winners were Wendall Barton on No. 7 (12-7) and Barry Picard on No. 9 (14-3). Zack Little and Don Mailloux amassed the most points (5½).
