Hickey, Smith earn MBCA postseason honors

Greenfield High School senior guard Raegan Hickey was named the Red Auerbach West Player of the Year by the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association over the weekend at a banquet at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

Hickey and teammate Samantha Smith, a senior forward, were both named to the All-Academic and All-Senior teams. The duo helped lead the Green Wave to the WMass Division 3 championship game.


Stalker ace

Al Stalker from North Adams aced the fifth hole at the Country Club of Greenfield on Saturday.

Stalker used a 7-hybrid to register the fourth ace of his career on the 140-yard hole. Tom DeGray, Joe Coffey and Dave Liimatainen each witnessed the feat.

KC Finley and Nate Burdick shot a 61 and tied Steve Jones and Eric Adams for first place in the Two Man Scramble Championship at the Country Club of Greenfield on Saturday.

Chris Bourbeau and John Wilkes tied Matt Matroni and Tom Herzig for third place with a 62, while Jon Fasick and Ed Garbacik tied Kim Mertes and Jack Neves for fifth place with a 63.

Dennis Sullivan and Bryant Bishko shot a 57 to win low net. Five teams — Terry Blanchard and Mike Archer, Steve Colby and Dave Donoghue, Al Griffin and Jon Shea, Jeff Merkel and Carl Hoynoski, and Ben Premo and Tony Gleason — tied for second net with a 58.


Deerfield results

Donnie Gray, Cortland Dicks and Ethan Chen helped the Deerfield Academy boys’ 4 x 100 relay team set a new school record and Big Green boys won a tri-meet with St. Paul’s and Choate Rosemary Hall Saturday in Deerfield.

The Big Green girls team finished third.

The Deerfield golf team improved to 8-1 on the season with a 7½-2½ victory over Phillips Andover Academy Saturday in Andover.  

The Big Green boys and girls lacrosse teams each earned narrow victories on Saturday when they traveled to Salisbury, Conn. to face Hotchkiss School.

The girls team earned a 10-9 victory in overtime to improve to 8-2 on the season, while the boys picked up a 9-8 win to move to 10-2 on the year.

The Deerfield boys and girls tennis teams also made it a weekend sweep in their matches. 

The Big Green girls remained unbeaten on the season at 7-0 with a 9-0 victory over Loomis Chaffee School in Deerfield. The boys headed to Wallingford, Conn. to face Choate and picked up a 5-2 victory.

 The Deerfield baseball team suffered a 4-3 loss to Worcester Academy, Saturday in Worcester. The loss dropped the Big Green to 8-4 on the year.

The DA girls water polo team fell to 3-8 on the season with a 15-3 loss to Williston, Saturday in Northampton.

NMH results

The Northfield Mount Hermon School boys tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Cheshire Academy, Saturday in Gill.
