Bulletin Board: UMass baseball sweeps Bucknell with 12-11 win

Connor Smith laced a 2-1 pitch for a double, plating Marcus Fry with the game-winning run as the UMass baseball team walked off with a 12-11 victory over Bucknell to compete a three-game series sweep of the Bison Wednesday afternoon at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee, Fla.

UMass (5-3) led 11-6 entering the ninth inning before Bucknell tied the game with five runs in the top of the ninth.

The Minutemen won all three games by one run, with Casey Aubin picking up Wednesday’s victory in relief.

Smith finished with three hits and drove in four runs. Ryan Lever also smacked three hits in the win.

UM lacrosse wins

Jake Lisauskas posted his first collegiate hat trick and the UMass men’s lacrosse team thumped UMass-Lowell, 13-6, in a non-conference game Wednesday at the Cushing Athletic Complex in Lowell.

Three additional Minutemen posted three points: Buddy Carr (two goals, one assist), Kevin Tobin (one goal, two assists) and Jeff Trainor (two goals, one assist).

UMass, which improved to 3-4 overall, returns to Garber Field on Saturday to play Hartford (2-3) at 1 p.m.

Youth hockey

FCHA Bantams edged

Sam Knight scored late in the third period, but the Franklin County Hockey Association Dillon’s Warriors dropped a tight 2-1 game to Amherst in a Greater Springfield League Bantam hockey game Tuesday at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Derek Lenois and Casey Hoffman assisted on the goal, which cut the deficit to 2-1 with four minutes remaining.

The Warriors saw their season come to an end with the loss. Goaltenders Josh Bordeaux and Trevor Parkinson combined for 23 saves.

FCHA PeeWees win Spring Fling

It was a dominant weekend for the FCHA PeeWee White U12 hockey team, as the squad went 4-0 to claim the top spot in the Spring Fling Hockey Tournament held at Peter E. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Skating Rink in North Adams.

The Warriors allowed just three goals all weekend. The tournament began with a 6-1 win over Northfield, followed by victories over the Berkshire Bruins (4-2) and Northern Berkshire (6-0). The weekend came to a close with a 4-0 win over Northfield.

Youth baseball

The Greenfield Minor League will hold its final registration day for the upcoming youth baseball season Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. at the Lunt Field field house on Kenwood Street in Greenfield.

The league is open to boys and girls from Franklin County ages 7 to 12. Players must be 7 prior to Aug. 1 to be eligible. There are four divisions (Rookie, AA, AAA and Majors) and cost is $75. Montague Parks programs

The Montague Parks & Recreation Department has several upcoming programs for the spring season.

• Tee Ball — Open to children 4 through 6 and runs from April 21 through June 2 on Saturday mornings from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Cost is $35 for residents and $40 for non residents as of March 23, and $5 more after that.

• Rookie League — Open to children ages 7 through 9 and runs from April 21 through June 2 on Saturday mornings from 9 until 10:30. Features intra-squad games and coach-pitch. All players should bring their own gloves. Cost is $40 for residents and $45 for non-residents.

• Nipper League Softball — The Purple Panthers team. Open to girls ages 7 through 9. Runs early April until mid-June. Cost is $65 for residents and $70 for non-residents. All games are played at Murphy Park in Greenfield as part of the Greenfield Girls’ Softball League.

Deadline to register for all teams is March 30.
