Bulletin Board: Greenfield Middle School rolls to hoops victory

David Carey led three players in double figures with 19 points as Greenfield Middle School powered to a 76-20 victory over Pioneer Valley Regional School in a boys’ basketball game Thursday afternoon.

Deion Brewington scored 13 points in the win for the Green Wave, which improved to 9-1 overall on the season. Mav Ward also tallied in double figures with 11 points. Tyler Podolski tossed in 5.

• In the girls’ game, Pioneer picked up a 25-16 victory over Greenfield to earn a split.

Greenfield’s Amber Bergeron scored 12 points to lead the way, while Brielle Widelo added 2 points. Aneesa Brewer, Josie Cloutier and Angie Rivera paced the defensive effort.

Pioneer seeking spring coaches

Pioneer Valley Regional School is looking for coaches for the spring season.

The Panthers have openings for an assistant boys and girls’ track coach, as well as a JV baseball coach.

Greenfield-Mohawk to benefit Miner

Saturday night’s girls’ basketball game between Greenfield High School and Mohawk Trail Regional High School will be played in support a special cause.

The Green Wave will be raising money to support former Mohawk head coach Chuck Miner, who is the father of current Warriors coach Larissa Miner. Chuck Miner is battling leukemia, and Greenfield is holding a ‘Chuck Strong’ night for the 6 p.m. game at Nichols Gymnasium in Greenfield.

Fans are encouraged to wear orange. ‘Chuck Strong’ T-shirts and bracelets will be on sale as well to help raise funds.

Petrin Memorial Game

Players are still being sought for the 26th-annual David M. Petrin Memorial GHS Alumni Hockey Game.

The event will be held on Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

The game’s format will remain an all-alumni game. A minimum of 30 skaters and two or more goaltenders are being sought for the event. In the event of surplus inquiries, all alums will be accommodated.

All proceeds go to the David M. Petrin Memorial Scholarship Fund.
