Wave JV tops Amherst, 5-2

Sam Battisti had a goal and an assist on Wednesday and the Greenfield High School junior varsity hockey team defeated Amherst JV, 5-2, at Orr Rink in Amherst.

Adam Savoy scored the eventual game-winning goal with six minutes left in the third period and the Green Wave added two more goals to seal the win

. Kyle Barnes, Tony Benedetti and Porter Clancy each added a goal in the win. Kyle Devlin had a pair of assists for the Wave, while Brandon Green, Devin Carty and Matt Willhite each had an assist.

Alex Gurganus stopped 25 shots to earn the win in goal.


Deerfield scores

After falling behind 2-0, the Deerfield Academy girls’ hockey team rallied to earn a 2-2 tie with St. Paul’s School in prep action Wednesday afternoon in Concord, N.H.

It was the first point of the season for the Big Green, which improved to 0-3-1 on the season.

Elsewhere, the girls’ basketball held serve at home for their first win of the season, capturing a convincing 49-27 win over Miss Hall’s School.

The boys’ basketball team also grabbed a lopsided victory, defeating Pomfret School, 71-45, to improve to 2-4 on the season.

The varsity squash teams picked up a pair of sweeps, as the girls’ team was a 7-0 winner over Groton School and the boys’ team blanked Loomis Chaffee School, 7-0.Hockey


Winter Wonderland event

Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield will hold a weekend-long Winter Wonderland Public Skate event from Friday through Sunday.

The event will run on Friday (from 9 until 10:50 p.m.), Saturday (from noon until 1:50 p.m.) and Sunday (from 4:10 until 6 p.m.) and includes skating to music, both current hits and winter-themed.

General admission is $5 per person.
