Bulletin Board: Deerfield Academy girls ski to 1st-place finish

With a challenging slalom on soft snow at Berkshire East on Wednesday, the Deerfield Academy girls ski team earned a first place finish in the Mount Institute Ski League with 213 points. Northfield Mount Hermon took second. 

NMH’s Olivia Weinstein was the top placer on the girls side with her two combined runs totaling a time of 76.69. Claire Patton of DA took second with two combined runs totaling 78.23 seconds. Hogger Mackenzie Gahan settled for third with her two runs totaling 79.15 seconds. 

On the boys side, the Big Green came in first followed by NMH in second. 

Hogger Isaac Foster had the fastest total times of 65.06, good for first. DA’s Tait Kline came in second with his two runs totaling 66.18 seconds, followed by teammate Achille Sarachek in third with a total time of 67.36.

Wednesday Results

In other Big Green action on Wednesday, the girls varsity basketball team picked up a 56-28 win over Taft and the boys varsity hockey team defeated Loomis, 5-1. 

The DA boys basketball team fell to Nobles, 40-36 while the boys and girls swimming teams both suffered losses to Suffield, the boys 100-81 and the girls 97-81. 

The Big Wave boys squash team lost to Kent, 4-3.


Middle School

Morgan Softic, Will Barnes and Owen Carl each scored eight points for the Mahar Regional boys middle school basketball team in a 42-27 win over Turners Falls in Orange on Tuesday. 

The Senators had a 25-14 halftime advantage. 

Jayden Delgado chipped in with five points, with Treighton St. Pierre adding another four.

The Senators host Greenfield on Friday at 5 p.m.

Youth Hockey


FCHA Pee Wee Green split a pair of contests over the weekend.

FCHA defeated Westfield Black, 7-1, at Amelia Park on Saturday. 

Porter Hal led the offense with two goals and an assist.

Matt Garvin also netted two goals.  Griffin Mariani had a goal and an assist. Gigi Grima and Luca Siano each added goal with Cade Allenby picking up a helper.  

Jack Laurie and Jay McGinnis led the defensive effort.

FCHA dropped a road game, 4-2, to Keene Pee Wee in Keene, N.H., on Sunday.

McGinnis made 31 saves for FCHA.

Mariani (assist) and Grima found the net for FCHA.
