After a long road swing, the Northfield Mount Hermon School boys basketball team finally made its debut at Forslund Gymnasium on Saturday. The Hoggers overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to capture an 82-76 victory over Naval Academy Preparatory School.
NMH, which improved to 10-2 on the season with the victory, trailed 48-39 at halftime. The Hoggers found their rhythm in a front of a boisterious crowd after the break however, using a 17-5 run to start the second half and take a 60-58 advantage.
Navy Prep took the lead again and built a 71-66 advantage, but NMH tied it again at 73, and closed things out with a 9-3 run to secure the victory.
Darius Ervin led the way with 25 points, while Sam Silverstein and Prince Moses added 15 points apiece. Avery Brown joined them in double figures with 13 points, while Luca Lukacevic tossed in nine points and seven rebounds.
NMH visits Winchendon School on Wednesday for a scheduled 3 p.m. tip before returning home to play Brewster Academy on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Deerfield results
In Deerfield Academy results over the weekend, the boys basketball team loss to Williston, 63-53, while the girls basketball team suffered their first loss of the season to Worcester Academy, 74-39.
The girls hockey team lost at home to St. Paul’s 4-2, and the boys hockey team lost on the road to Salisbury, 3-2.
The girls squash team lost at home to Scared Heart, 6-1 and beat Exeter, 7-0. The boys’ squash team picked up wins over Belmont Hill (6-1) and Exeter (7-0).
Youth basketballThe Athol Middle School boys team cruised past Hopkins Academy, 58-20, at home on Friday.
Angel Castillo scored 13 points, with Ben Kearney adding another 11. Colby Goodwin chipped in with nine points.
• The Greenfield 5th and 6th grade Suburban League team beat Tantansqua, 50-39, on Saturday.
Grayson Thomas dropped 27 points for the Wave.
Gavin Arsenault scored nine and Levi Dunn chipped in with seven.
• The Pioneer 7th and 8th grade Suburban boys squad took down Belchertown, 65-47, on Saturday.
Gabe Tomasi (15 points), Josh Wood (13 points) and Gavin Gammell (12 points) all scored in double-figures for the Panthers.
Pioneer led 40-17 at half.
Youth HockeyFCHA
The FCHA squirt green dropped a pair of games over the weekend.
On Saturday, FCHA lost to Westfield, 5-2, at Amelia Park.
Chase Zraunig scored twice with Carter Schloat picking up an assist.
On Sunday, Zraunig scored twice with an assist but FCHA lost to Brattleboro, 9-5 at Collins-Moylan.
Nolan Kalinowski scored twice, with Nico Siano and Desmond Drake each adding an assist.
