SHELBURNE — The two women who stole flowers and plants from the Bridge of Flowers will be charged with larceny under $1,200, a misdemeanor crime, according to Shelburne Police Chief Gregory Bardwell.

Because a report has not yet been completed and filed with the courthouse, the names of the suspects are not available at this time.

The suspects were caught on security camera footage stealing the plants at approximately 5 a.m. on May 5. Bardwell said the Police Department received a number of tips after sharing image stills depicting the suspects on social media.

“The majority of the tips pointed toward two individuals,” he said. “The tips came from citizens and other police departments. We followed up on them all.”

Bardwell said the suspects were discovered after police acquired a phone number for one of them from a Buckland resident.

“Sgt. Timothy Budrewicz of the Shelburne Police Department contacted that suspect who admitted to the crime,” Bardwell said.

The two suspects returned the plants to the Buckland Police Department on Monday evening at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to Buckland Police Chief James Hicks. The flowers and plants were turned over to the Shelburne Police Department, who has jurisdiction on the case.

The plants have since been collected and returned to the Bridge of Flowers.
