GILL — The body of a 29-year-old Northampton man was pulled out of the Connecticut River near the French King Bridge on Monday afternoon at around 1:30 p.m.

Laurie Loisel, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, said an investigation is underway and the body is being examined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death.

State Police detectives and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Gill and Montague Police departments, and the Gill Fire Department were on scene most of the afternoon after discovering the body in the river, Loisel said.

Gill Fire Chief Gene Beaubien confirmed his department was dispatched at 1:31 p.m. and remained on scene until 3:45 p.m.

On Wednesday evening, Loisel added that nothing has been ruled out, but investigators do not suspect foul play at this time.
