BERNARDSTON — If you’re wondering what to have for dinner Saturday, think chicken pot pie.

That’s what the Bernardston Kiwanis Club is serving up Saturday at the United Church of Bernardston. It’s part of the club fundraising effort, explained Dan Devine, a member of the club and the chicken pot pie committee, something that’s held on the last Saturday of the month from January until April.

“We do them as a great way for people to get out for a good meal with their friends and also as a fundraising avenue,” Devine said. “This month, we’ll be raising money for our Kiwanis Park,” specifically targeting the money for upkeep and repairs.

“Last month, we had a dual purpose — trying to raise money to send the Pioneer Valley Regional School band to an event in Washington, D.C., and also the Pioneer chorus to an MLK (Martin Luther King Jr.) anniversary event, also in Washington, D.C.

“We raised a little over $1,000 for each and figured we’d raise to the nearest thousand,” Devine said, “we’ll will be giving $2,000 to each group.”

For $10 ($5 for children), those attending will get all-you-can-eat chicken pot pie, a side of butternut squash, cranberries, dinner rolls, carrot cake for dessert and drinks. Frozen chicken pot pies to take home, for $12 each, will also be available. And those attending the supper will have a chance to win some prizes through raffles.
