Baystate Health has modified the visitor policy throughout its system when it comes to labor and delivery.

Effective immediately, the partner who attends the birth will remain with the patient until discharge, but only with the provision that they not leave the patientโ€™s room for any reason, according to Baystate Health. That person will be screened twice daily for signs of infection.

Baystate Health provides COVID-19 numbers daily. They are cumulative. The hospital system, which consists of Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer and Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, said it will not provide any other numbers, will not discuss anyoneโ€™s condition and will not give interviews to the press.

The numbers on Sunday were as follows: to date, 1,384 individuals have been tested; 870 came back negative; 222 are positive; there are still 292 results pending. Baystate has not reported any deaths to date.

Baystate Health reported a couple of weeks ago that anyone who tests positive at BFMC, Wing or Noble will be transferred to Springfield or sent home, depending on the severity of their symptoms. It is not known how many patients, if any, have been transported.

Baystate Health is a nonprofit integrated health care system that serves more than 800,000 people throughout Western Massachusetts. It employs almost 12,000 people.
