GREENFIELD — Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s interim president and interim chief nursing officer have accepted those positions permanently.

Ron Bryant will now be both the president of Baystate Noble in Westfield and the Greenfield hospital, where he’s been interim since January. And Deb Provost will continue to be the chief regulatory officer of Baystate Health while the chief nursing officer of Baystate Franklin, where she’s been interim since November.

Both Bryant and Provost were not available for comment following the hospital announcement of their appointments Tuesday. Written questions from the Recorder about their vision for the hospital, their salaries and their plans to resolve the 18-month labor dispute with the Baystate Franklin nurses were not answered by press time.

About five weeks after assuming the interim position in January, Bryant expressed optimism about resolving the labor dispute, which has centered around nurse staffing questions.

In that interview, Bryant, who has been at Noble since 2011, said the hospital’s “core mission is to take care of the patients who live in our community.” He said, “That’s what we do. That’s what physicians do. That’s what the nurses do. That’s what techs do. That’s what administrators care about. And that’s the common bond.”

Since Bryant came on in January, he has “held many open forums focusing on employee engagement that supports the need for a strong collaborative culture, advancing system integration and re-emphasizing the health system’s mission from a patient and employee perspective,” a statement from the hospital said.

Bryant came on as interim president to fill the void left by Cindy Russo, who had announced her departure in December after 18 months in that position. She said she left because it “is the right personal decision for me to explore other health care leadership opportunities.” Before she left, Russo was named in an unfair labor practice charge submitted by the security union to the National Labor Relations Board regional office, which found merit with the charge. The case, initially set for court in May, has been pushed back to August.

Provost has been serving as the interim chief nursing officer since November 2017. She has spent 41 years with Baystate Health, serving as vice president of surgery and anesthesia and as interim chief nursing officer at Baystate Medical Center.

“Ron’s many years of experience leading community hospitals, combined with Deb’s longstanding dedication to our employees, will provide Baystate Franklin Medical Center with leadership who are committed to supporting our employees, patients and community,” President of Baystate Medical Center and Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations for Baystate Health Nancy Shendell-Falik said in the statement.
