Audubon Bird Sightings, Week of April 9, 2018

Here are this week’s bird sightings from the Western Massachusetts Voice of Audubon.

Two Ross’s geese were seen in a large flock of snow geese seen in flight over Sheffield, part of a heavy movement of snow geese throughout the weekend.

Sandhill cranes, seen in Lee.

A great egret was seen in Tolland, while three great egrets were reported in Northfield.

Northern shovelers, found in Ludlow.

A northern shrike, seen in Windsor.

A red-headed woodpecker continues to be reported in Northampton.

Red crossbills continue to be seen in Montague.

Other uncommon or arriving species included: green-winged teal, gadwall, greater scaup, redhead, cormorant, green heron, sharp-shinned hawk, American kestrel, yellow-bellied sapsucker, northern flicker, eastern phoebe, horned lark, rusty blackbirds and American pipit. Also tree, bank, and barn swallows; and ruby-crowned kinglet, yellow-rumped, palm and pine warblers; towhee, fox, Lincoln’s and white-crowned sparrows.
