“It Can’t Happen Here”: Ashfield Community Theater invites auditioners to try out for “It Can’t Happen Here,” a prescient 1936 play by Sinclair Lewis on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 6 p.m.; and Monday, Jan. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Belding Memorial Library, 344 Main St. (Route 116), in Ashfield. “The Last Five Years”: Ryan Buck, the music and stage director, will hold open auditions for four roles for the musical written and composed by Jason Robert Brown. Roles to fill are two male and two female characters who can play in their 20s. Auditions will take place at Brattleboro Union High School Auditorium, 131 Fairground Road on Saturday, Jan. 27, starting at 11 a.m. Each actor will have a 15-minute time slot and should prepare the first verse and chorus of one of the selected songs. “The Lily’s Revenge”: We seek a diverse cast and specifically encourage LGBTQIA+ performers to join us for this production. We are also interested in finding performers who have special talents — be it juggling, burlesque, acrobatics, etc. You do not need to be a theater major — Five College and community performers are welcome. For auditions, prepare a one-minute monologue of heightened language; a one-minute contemporary monologue; 16 bars of a song, of any genre that best demonstrates your vocal ability. Pas de Deux exhibit: The Elusie Gallery is inviting all creative couples to participate in Pas de Deux. Using Valentine’s Day as a pretext, Pas de Deux will feature original artwork created by couples. You can submit joint collaborations or distinct artwork, as many as five submissions per couple. All media will be considered, spoken word and poetry will be printed. Submit via email to: elusie@bigredframe.com with: Name of both participating partners; contact information; type of art proposed by the couple; a few words about you, individually and as a couple; images (jpeg min. 300 dpi) of proposed artwork if it has already created, or a description if it has not yet. Submission deadline is noon on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Small works exhibit and sale: Take part in a community exhibit hosted by Sawmill River Arts Gallery, next to the Book Mill in Montague Center. Exhibit dates are Feb. 1 through 26, with reception Saturday, Feb. 3, from noon to 3 p.m. A non-juried show of original, 2- and 3-dimensional visual art, any medium. Maximum size is 10 inches in any direction, including frame. Entry fee is $5 per artwork. Artists may submit up to two pieces; at least one will be exhibited. The first 80 artists will be included.
